The title for Jesuit was everything the sharp-shooting 6-foot, 165-pound guard could have hoped for and the fact he was a key component to the success was the cherry on top. The senior is now looking forward to his future and he’s got a number of options and paths to sort through.
Williams noted that he’s been talking with Redlands quite a bit, who was actually in attendance at the state tournament. Other D-III schools such as Whitman, Pacific, and Pacific Lutheran have been in touch. Bemidji State, a D-II in Minnesota has recently shown some interest. Another option has emerged which is one Williams hadn’t thought of previously. Scotland Campus prep school located in Pennsylvania saw Williams play in the state tournament online and he’s considering the possibilities of a prep year.
“They’ve reached out to me and told me that they’d like me to come and visit and possibly travel with them next year to play on the prep circuit,” Williams said. “They said that they liked how I played and they see potential in me as a pure point guard if I develop those skills more. I’m pretty interested as I think it might be a good opportunity. But I want to explore it a little more before I make my decision.”
One person Williams has talked to about the prep school route is former Jesuit standout Chuka Mekkam, who attended Bridgton Academy in Maine after graduating from Jesuit. He’s also planning to touch base with former Crusader Cameron Parker as well. Williams understands the risks of going to prep school – if it completely works out, he could head directly to a Division I school like Parker did (Sacred Heart) or it may require a year of junior college like it has for Mekkam (Vincennes – which won the NJCAA title this past season).
Of course, Williams can choose to go ahead and head to the college level to see what he can do. There are quite a few options for him to consider and he’s carefully looking at them all. “I’ve always wanted a scholarship my entire life, whether it be D-I, D-II, or an offer from a Division III school,” Williams said. “I think I can play at the D-II level or at a low D-I level and I’ve been told by the prep school that I shoot it well enough where if I develop my point guard skills I could become a low-major Division I prospect.”
“So ultimately I think it’s going to come down to if I fit well academically at the school,” he continued. “But I also don’t want to go to a program that has a bad tradition or culture – I want to go to a winning program that’s known for who they are either on the East or West coast.”
Williams currently ranks as the #51 player in the PrepHoops Class of 2019 rankings.
