The 6-foot-5 sophomore, who is tracking as one of the top local prospects in his class, was the catalyst of his team’s win over Riverdale Baptist in the CBAA Semifinals last night. Robinson discussed the team’s overall performance, his overall game, and recruiting during a recent interview with Prep Hoops.
PH: How would you evaluate the team performance today?
JR: “I think we started off pretty sloppy. Our defense wasn’t that good. We were gambling too much. We weren’t getting easy looks on offense.”
PH: What is it about this Riverdale team that makes them such a tough matchup?
JR: “They’re just scrappy. We have the height advantage, but they’re just scrappy and strong. We just have a hard time playing against teams like that. We gotta work on that.”
PH: You handled the ball and initiated the offense a lot today. Is that an improved part of your game?
JR: “I’ve worked on it more, and Coach Brown he feels pretty comfortable with the ball in my hands. He thinks I can make the best decision.
PH: What’s the most underrated part of your game?
JR: “Probably my jumper. People are just sleeping on it.
PH: What type of routine do you go through to perfect your jump shot?
JR: “First we do five spots mid range, then we do threes. Then we work on shooting off the dribble and other stuff.”
PH: How many threes would you hit on average out of 100 if you were in the gym by yourself and no one was guarding you?
JR: “Probably like 85. Its the same whether I spot up or catch and shoot.”
PH: How are your grades?
JR: “Last semester I had a 4.0. Right now I probably have a 3.7 or 3.8 GPA.”
PH: Who’s recruiting you?
JR: “Right now I have two offers. One from Howard, and one from Bryant.”
PH: What are your goals?
JR: “To just work harder. Take criticism from coaches, soak everything in, and keep getting better.”
