Brookfield Central: 69, Sussex Hamilton: 62 (OT)
Despite being without Gage Malensek, Brookfield Central was able to take down Sussex Hamilton for the first time this season. The Lancers had fallen to Hamilton both times that the two teams squared off in the regular season. Brookfield Central’s Cole and Ben Nau scored a combined 33 points in the win. Patrick Baldwin went for an impressive 33 points, but it was not enough. Central outscored the Chargers 17-10 in overtime en route to the 69-62 victory.
Neenah: 68, Hudson:66
Another day, another great performance from Max Klesmit, and another win for Neenah. Klesmit dropped 34 points, including the go-ahead jumper that gave Neenah the lead for good. The Rockets will play Brookfield Central on Friday night.
West Allis Central: 78, Waukesha West: 72 (2OT)
West Allis Central upset Waukesha West in a double overtime thriller. The Bulldogs were able to handcuff West’s, David Skogman. In the final game of his career, Skogman went 1-10 from the field and only scored ten points.
Sun Prairie: 66, Madison La Follette: 53
Sun Prairie’s balanced scoring attack proved to be too much for Madison La Follette. The Cardinals had four players who scored in double-figures. Delaware Hale led all Sun Prairie scorers with 15 points. Madison La Follette’s Isaiah Stewart paced his squad with 15 points in the loss.
Nicolet: 57, Kaukauna: 44
Nicolet’s ticket to state was hard-earned. The Knights got a stiff test from last year’s D-2 champions. While both teams struggled to make shots, Nicolet had more playmakers. James Graham led the Knights with 16 points, Jalen Johnson scored 11 points and Jamari Sibley dropped 12. Kaukauna’s Donovan Ivory scored 13 points and led the Ghosts. Unfortunately for Ivory, 13 points was not enough to extend his brilliant senior season.
La Crosse Central: 81, Merrill: 55
La Crosse Central did not just survive and advance, they thrived and advanced. The Red Raiders blew past Merrill and advanced to state for the fourth consecutive season. Johnny Davis scored 24 points in the blowout win.
Milwaukee Washington: 87, Milwaukee Bay View: 66
Milwaukee Washington had a comfortable win over Milwaukee Bay View in the sectional final. Washington got 20 point performances from Deontay Long, Michael Foster Jr, and Tre White. Washington may be the team that is best equipped to take down Nicolet.
Elkhorn Area: 60, Mount Horeb: 58
Elkhorn Area’s cinderella story continues. After stunning Westosha Central, the Elks took down another one seed. Elkhorn Area was able to get past Mount Horeb behind 17 points from Chance Larson. Elkhorn Area will face some more tough competition of Friday when they face Nicolet.
