Over this season Stokes has put up impressive averages of 21.1 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 3.8 assists. The efforts of Stokes have helped Lincoln Christian to an opportunity to make the state tournament with a win tonight against John Marshall. Last Saturday night Stokes led the Bulldogs to a big victory over Douglas. Stokes credits his teammates.
“It was a really crucial win for us over Douglas coming off of a win against sixth-ranked Central,” said Stokes. ” Our team has had a lot of ups and downs this season. We are pulling it together when it counts and proving to Class 4A our team is here to compete.”
No one can argue that the run Lincoln Christian has made to this point is very impressive. Stokes will have his hands full with a tough matchup against John Marshall likely leading to see him matched up against Patrick Garrett. There is no doubt that will be a very fun matchup to watch.
At 6’6 the long wingspan and sneaky athleticism of Stokes catch defenders off guard. Stokes cannot only shoot it from behind the arc but is able to drive and punch the ball through the net with authority. The new additions to the game of Stokes have come from very hard work this past offseason.
“I have been training for this for years,” said Stokes. “This past offseason I worked on getting to the rim. I knew I needed to be a dual threat to play at a high level. Also, my coach and teammates believe in me which gives me a lot of freedom on the court.”
The interest from colleges is starting to pick up with over 10 schools at the D2 and NAIA levels reaching out to Stokes. The numbers for Stokes this season are certainly impressive for a prospect who has no offers. Often times players in Stokes situation who blossom towards the end of their high school career see a big push of scholarships in the spring. The focus of Stokes right now is far away from what college he will attend as he is completely locked in on helping his team win games in the Class 4A Area tournament. Colleges will want to take notice of his talents though over the next two weekends.
