Prospect Spotlight: Justin Recker (2021)
Monticello’s 6-foot-5 forward Justin Recker recently wrapped up what was one of Iowa’s best sophomore seasons.
Currently checking in a No. 24 in Iowa’s Class on 2021 prospect rankings, Recker did well this season to justify the high regard.
It’s his ability to score and rebound prolifically that made him one of the state’s best this season.
“I would say I’m more of a drive-first player than a shooter, and I’ve really improved on my ball-handling in the last year,” said Recker.
“I need to develop my jump-shot before next fall and my defense and quickness. Another goal is to improve my rebounding and average double figures.”
Recker averaged team-bests 18.5 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game this past winter for the 12-5 Panthers.
“My role was to lead the team and be a scorer when we needed it, and I defended one of the other team’s best players,” said Recker. “Also, I needed to bring energy.”
This spring and summer, Recker will play with Iowa Force 16U, which includes players from Monticello and couple surrounding schools, “We plan to focus on larger Midwest tournaments,” he said.
He’s hoping to generate some college recruitment by the time his junior season starts up next fall.
“I haven’t had any contact with colleges yet,” said Recker. “However, my goals are to play college basketball and hopefully I will be hearing from coaches over the next year.”
