Sweeney’s ability to score from the perimeter and also take smaller guys into the paint is what makes him such a threat.
“I think of myself as a stretch big that can step out and knock down a 3, and if I have a smaller guy on me I can go right to the post and make my moves and get buckets under the basket,” said Sweeney.
His sophomore season wrapped up recently, he helped the Warriors get to a region championship, then to the Sweet 16 at state. Sweeney started all season and averaged eight points per game. “I was alright with the way I played, but I think I could have played better,” he said.
This offseason, he’ll look to make major improvements to his game while playing up a grade with Cherokee Legacy 17U. It’ll be his first season playing with the program.
“I decided to play up a grade level after talking with my parents and the coach of the team. They’re going to have a really good team, and I think it’ll help me in the long run playing against the older kids,” said Sweeney, who hopes to see some recruitment start to materialize this summer.
“That is on my mind,” he said. “I haven’t had any interest come in yet, but this summer I’m trying to make a name for myself.”
