Prospect Spotlight: John Fox (2020)
Recently, 6-foot-5 power forward John Fox wrapped up his junior season at Sierra Vista, now the gritty post is determined to take his game to new heights as he heads into a 17U offseason.
Fox is already a bit of a versatile threat, one who thrives in the post, but can take his game out to mid-range. He’ll be working this spring and summer to extend his game even more.
“I like to open the lane up for people and get aggressive for rebounds, and I try and do a lot of work down there in the paint,” Fox said. “And I’m a pretty decent shooter from outside at the mid-range.”
He added: “I’m working on getting better at shooting 3s, and I’m working on getting a higher vertical. I’m looking to get stronger so I can play against bigger people moving forward.”
Fox got stronger as his junior season went on; he began the season as a sixth-man for the Mountain Lions, and was starting by season’s end. He ended up winning the coach’s award as a result of his determination and work ethic.
Now, Fox will take that resolve into a spring and summer regiment with Las Vegas Punishers 17U. It’s his first season with the program, “I’m looking to get more versatile as a player and just better all around,” said Fox.
Recruitment: Division III schools, JuCos and one Division II school have been in contact with Fox so far; Aurora University, UC Santa Cruz, Eastern Illinois are some he named, “I just want to end up at a school where I can play a good role a team wherever the coach puts me,” said Fox.
