Prospect Spotlight: Garrett Chapin (Norwalk HS 2021)
A couple weeks ago, I watched Garrett Chapin play for the first time in the regional semifinals. Despite the loss, the sophomore put up a huge game, I believe a 25 point double-double.
I thought to myself, wow this kid is good for the sophomore class, and had to find out some more – so I did.
The sophomore was a secondary level player for the Truckers, senior Brandon Haraway took a lot of the load. Despite that, Garrett put up 12 points a game, to go along with eight rebounds. The regional semifinal game was kind of a breakout game, in front of a lot of people. At 6-foot-5 Chapin plays the wing-forward roll. Also, a smart kid with a 3.7 GPA.
Against Columbus South at the BG regional, Chapin had it going. Playing the four he displayed put back ability, as well as giving his team extra possessions. A mid-range touch, also the ability to stretch the floor and shoot it from deep. The sophomore Trucker worked well off low screens, and moved solidly without the ball.
Also, playing football, where he is the quarterback on the Norwalk team that went to State this past year.
Catching up with Garrett:
Talking to Garrett, the sophomore said what sets him apart from others his him “not wanting to be out worked by other players”.
The part of his game he wants to work on the most is his footwork, speed and agility, which will benefit big time. Which he has big plans to work on this summer, outside of AAU.
Garrett will be running with Ohio Buckets, which plays on the Prep Hoops Circuit. This grassroots season the sophomore is looking to play on the court with some good friends, and making each other better. Also, while hoping to get some wins he must add.
This season, Chapin’s goal was to go out and play hard, and good things would happen. That’s exactly what happened as his team captured a sectional and district title. As well as playing in the Bowling Green Regionals, and winning their conference.
On the basketball court, the sophomore doesn’t have any offers yet. But that should definitely change as his tape and gameplay show he’s one of the best sophomores in his area at his position.
