Prospect Spotlight: Connor Drew (2020)
With his sophomore season now behind him, Ballard’s 6-foot-6 power forward Connor Drew is set to make a big splash on the 16U circuit this spring.
It’s his size and athletic ability that has made him one of the more intriguing prospects in Iowa’s 2021 class, and his versatility as a big-man is another point of emphasis for Drew.
“I’ve been working on my 3-point shot just a little bit more, and just trying to develop my all-around jumper. I’m not always going to be the tallest guy on the court, so I’m trying to develop my outside game a little bit more,” said Drew.
He was the best player for a Ballard team that advanced to the 3A state tournament earlier this month. Drew averaged 17.2 points, 9.6 rebounds and just over a block per game.
“Coming in as a sophomore, I felt like I had to be a leader, I just had to step up my role,” said Drew, “I thought if I got it going then the other guys would kind of feed off me.”
It’s now time for Drew to showcase his skills with one of the state’s best grassroots teams, All Iowa Attack 16U.
It’s this spring and summer when he could see his recruitment start to take off.
“I want to get my name out there a little more, try and get more coaches to look at me and talk to more coaches this year,” he said.
Drew says he’s talked to Division II programs Bemidji State and Wayne State a little bit.
“This summer, I’d like to try and get an offer or two maybe,” said Drew. “Low D1 or D2, I just want to keep playing (in college).”
