A 6-foot-3 junior, Rich recently wrapped up his season with the Rams, and the cerebral guard will be heading into his 17U season ready to show his all-around skill-set.
“I think I’m pretty good at catch and shoot situations, being able to take care of the ball to find the open man, and then defense,” said Rich.
“I think shooting is what I’m best at, and I’d like to improve my ball-handling so I can create my own shot more easily.”
As a junior at Highland, Rich says his role was to help the seniors get their shots. Next season, he’ll again be a primary playmaker for the Rams.
“This year we had a lot of seniors, so I really tried to facilitate the ball and get those guys some open shots. We had two or three other guys who were our main scorers, and I tried to be a facilitator and knock down shooter,” said Rich.
“I think next season I’ll be looked to as one of the main scorers on the team, and one of the main guys that has the ball in his hands for the majority of the game. I think next year will be a good leadership year for me.”
Ahead of his senior season, Rich will play with Salt Lake Bounce 17U this spring and summer, they’ll be all around the Western USA, including Anaheim, Las Vegas and Colorado to name a few places. He’ll be doing a lot of his own personal work, too.
A high-academic student-athlete, Rich has been recruited by some prestigious smaller programs for hoops.
“I’ve been talking to a couple schools, mainly high academic schools,” he said.
Puget Sound and Johns Hopkins are a couple he mentioned. Rich has a 3.98 cumulative GPA and just scored a 31 on his ACT. He plans on taking the SAT in June.
“I’m mainly looking for a high academic school, probably D3, just because of my high ACT and my GPA,” said Rich. “I think that’d be the best best for me.”
