Players make the list for various reasons, such as: they had a breakout regular season and I want to see how that translates into AAU, they are very talented players, or because I think they are about to have a break out summer. No matter what the reason, you should definitely check these guys out this summer!
Dylan Anderson (6’10 F Perry/Arizona Supreme)
Dylan Anderson is one of the top prospects in his class, has three colleges offers already, and is heavily believed to have a future in the professional basketball. If you ask me, that’s more than enough for me to want to go see this guy play. Anderson is a stretch 4 with great length and great shooting. He had a very good freshman season with Perry HS and I think he is going to play even better.
De’Vontes Cobbs (6’3 G Shadow Mountain/Arizona Supreme)
Cobbs played a lot during the high school season and won a state championship with Shadow Mountain. I loved watching this guy play, from his intense on ball defense, to how aggressive he attacks the rim. He had one of the biggest plays of the year blocking a shot that would’ve tied the game in the State Semifinals. Big things to come for Mr. Cobbs.
Creed Williamson (6’6 F Rancho Solano Prep/Powerhouse 15U Rise)
I had not seen this kid play until he came to the Powerhouse tryouts and I will be watching him very closely now! He has great size and is strong. I thought he was a 17U player that just got his time mixed up and showed up early for 15’s tryouts. Williamson is super intriguing to me simply based off of his physical gifts alone!
Andrew King (6’1 G Desert Vista/Powerhouse 15U Rise)
King is another kid that I had not seen play very much but he can go! He is a very skilled guard that is probably best suited to play the 2 due to his incredible scoring ability. He has a very awkward looking shooting form but that thing goes in at an efficient rate. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it! King will make a bigger name for himself this summer as I predict he has numerous scoring outbursts.
Dorell Thomas (6’4 G Hillcrest Prep/Compton Magic)
Thomas didn’t play as much as I would have hoped for Hillcrest but he is behind some ridiculous guards so I understand why he didn’t play a whole lot of minutes. However, I think this summer is his chance to make a name for himself. He should be seeing an increase in his minutes and when he is on the floor, he is simply incredible. Look out for Thomas this summer!
Trent Lavender (6’0 G Centennial/Arizona Supreme)
Trent is a player that I know all too well as we battled against Centennial twice this high school season. I can tell you first hand that he is a problem. He is very good at creating his own shot and showed a high IQ for his age. Lavender has a great hard pound to crossover move that gets defenders on their heels. Lavender will be a big tool for Arizona Supreme to use as he can either dish out some assists for his teammates or go and get his own points.
