The players put the hearts into the game they love and each represented their school to the best of their ability. They made sacrifices in order to be the best players and teammates that they could be.
The 2018-2019 season ended with a classic battle between Hudsonville Unity Christian and River Rouge, with Unity Christian bringing home a state championship.
Here are the Prep Hoops Michigan 2018-2019 Division 2 Player Of The Year and Honorable Mentions:
Player Of The Year
Romeo Weems (2019, G/F, New Haven)
Weems had a huge statistical season averaging 27.5ppg, 11.7rpg, 4.1spg, and 3.7apg. His diverse skill set allowed him to contribute to his teams success in every way possible. Weems led New Haven to the quarterfinals this season. He won the Michigan Mr. Basketball honor by the biggest margin ever. What makes Weems truly special however, is his dedication to his team and teammates.
Honorable Mention
Austin Braun (2019, PG, Grand Rapids Catholic Central)
Braun has been one of the top lead guards in Michigan for years now.
Andre Bradford (2019, PG, Harper Woods)
He’s an electric scoring point guard that led his team to the semifinals.
Pierre Brooks Jr. (2020, G, Detroit Douglass)
One of the most disciplined and diverse players in 2p18-2019.
Kobe Bufkin (2021, PG, Grand Rapids Christian)
The smooth guard showed the state what they have to deal with over the next 2 years.
Nigel Colvin (2019, SG, River Rouge)
Colvin was an elite defender and a steady leader for a special River Rouge squad.
Zach Goodline (2019, PG, Coloma)
One of the top shooters in Division 2 this season.
Carlos Johnson (2020, F, Benton Harbor)
He’s a double-double machine that dominated games.
Sudi McElroy (2019, G/F, Ferndale)
The athletic transfer lit up the scoreboard for Ferndale.
Micah Parrish (2019, G/F, River Rouge)
A lockdown defender and consistent scorer for state finalist River Rouge.
Brady Swinehart (2019, G, Ionia)
Was an elite perimeter scorer all season.
TJ VanKoevering (2019, PF, Hudsonville Unity Christian)
Inside prescense for the state champions was one of the top rebounders in the playoffs.
Noah Wiswary (2019, PG, Hudsonville Unity Christian)
The head of the snake for the Division 2 state champs.
Charlie Woodhams (2020, G, Otsego)
Led Otsego to an undefeated regular season.
