The two-day event featured camp games and skills instruction from former NBA player and college head coach Reggie Theus.
We attended Sunday’s camp games and all-star games and here is the second set of top guards we watched at the event.
Ja’Mari Arnold (2023/Hunstville, AL)
Arnold ran the show for his teams with poise and pace like any good point guard should. He identified good transition opportunities and executed them with precision passing or paint touches, but also knew when to back the ball out and operate in the half-court setting.
Mier Panoam (2023/Anchorage, AK)
The 6-footer is a dynamic athlete both in the open floor and in traffic. Panoam rose up and finished over length and through contact multiple times on the break, but one of his best attributes is his activity on the offensive and defensive boards.
Nasir Pettigrew (2024/Stamford, CT)
Pettigrew is a quick and shifty left-hander who thrives in transition. The 5-foot-10 seventh grader used a tight crossover dribble to get by defenders and to the rim with ease where he finished in a variety of ways. Pettigrew had a handful of blocked shots and steals, which led to fast break opportunities for his team.
Khristian Holmes (2023/Fresno, CA)
Holmes has a strong and well-built frame for an eighth grade prospect and used that strength to his advantage in the Best of the Best game. Holmes has some throwback style to his offensive repertoire, operating with comfort at the mid-range level with pull-up and step-back jumpers.
AJ Johnson (2023/Fresno, CA)
At 5-feet-10 and (maybe) 125 pounds, Johnson is a wiry, but smooth point guard who really understands the game and showed his basketball IQ in multiple ways. Johnson doesn’t force the issue offensively, utilizes the advance pass in transition, and used the baseline to his advantage when feeding his big men or finding spot-up shooters in the corners.
