After advancing to a Regional Final, and taking down the powerful Pickerington Central team, Roderick isn’t quite done yet at the prep level. A 29 point double-double boosted the Patriots over Pick Central.
Today, it was announced that Ben Roderick is Ohio’s Gatorade Player Of The Year. A nice accolade, for the hardworking Roderick, especially after returning from injury.
Losing just four games all year, Liberty has accumulated 23 wins. Getting to their first regional final, they will take on a very good Pickerington North team.
As for this season, Ben Roderick has been brilliant on the stat line. Averaging a big time 27.9 PPG, the senior led Central Ohio in scoring. Dropping 51 points on a team from Georgia, was huge early in the season. Scoring under 20 points just three times this season, number three in blue has been a man on a mission.
Improving about every tidbit of his game this season, Roderick has it all. The frame to be a solid defender, and force turnovers, also an inside-out scoring game. He can jump the passing lane, and be off and running, as well as post you up down low. A knock down shooter from deep, that can also pull up in the midrange. In his senior campaign he has majorly improved all of these areas. The Patriot has colleges like Ohio State and Xavier, still on his trail, as well as a handful of D1 offers already.
Gatorade Player Of The Year for the state of Ohio might not be the only player of the year award that Ben takes home. A no brained nominee for Mr. Basketball in the state, voters will have to at least give it a thought.
