Here are some of the top players to watch:
Ben Bohl, Sr., Bishop Ryan
Arguably the best player in the tournament, Bohl is a two-way star for the Lions. His ability to score at all three levels, control the tempo of the game, defend and rebound provides the foundation for Bishop Ryan’s success. His combination of skill, size, strength and explosiveness makes him an absolute headache for the opposition.
Cole Meyers, Jr., Richland
Meyers has been a machine for the Colts all year, combining skill and athleticism to average 18.5 points and 7 rebounds per game. He can shoot from the perimeter as well as get to the rim and his activity level allows him to sustain production at a high level.
Jaden Mitzel, Jr., Shiloh Christian
One of the best scorers in Class B, Mitzel is a matchup nightmare. Averaging 18.6 points per game with a chance to break Shiloh’s single season scoring record, Mitzel’s ability to score inside and out makes him an incredibly difficult player to defend. He’s skilled, crafty and strong and plays a high IQ game.
Chad Morsette Jr., Sr., Beulah
Morsette’s gotten better and better as the season has gone on. Fiery and competitive on both ends of the floor, Morsette is just as likely to hunt his own shot as he is shut down the opposition’s top scoring option. He’s a very good perimeter shooter and does a good job putting pressure on a defense with his aggressiveness.
Hayden Overby, Sr., Thompson
One of the stars of the season, Overby has been a catalyst for the top-rated Tommies all year. Averaging 19 points and 8 rebounds, Overby has turned in his best performances in the biggest games. He’s active on the interior but has the mobility and skillset to stretch out a defense as well.
Mason Hedberg, Sr., Bishop Ryan
One of the best scorers in Class B, Hedberg combines with Bohl to form the best duo in the state. Hedberg has terrific range from the outside and can produce points in bunches. He’s also improved as an all-around player and can guard and rebound as well as anybody in the tournament.
Cadyn Schwabe, Sr., Thompson
Schwabe missed the first eight games of the year but he’s picked things up in a big way late in the year. One of the best point guards in the state, Schwabe averages 11 points per game and is good as anybody at controlling the tempo and getting his team into its offense. He’ll put pressure on defenses by pushing the pace at times and defends with a lot of energy. A player to watch for the state title favorite Tommies.
Gavin Reiland, Jr., Richland
Reiland is one of the top long-range shooters in the tournament and can change a game in a matter of possessions. Averaging 15 points per game, Reiland is always a threat to score and provides explosiveness and athleticism which allows him to break defenses down if they close irresponsibly.
MaCauley Young, Sr., Shiloh Christian
The best true center in the tournament, Young’s ability to control the paint on both ends of the floor is something few other teams can match and it’s what makes Shiloh different. Young is a skilled low-post scorer and consistently good on the offensive glass in particular.
Scott Wagner, Fresh., Ellendale
One of the best young players in the state, Wagner emerged as a double-double machine for the Cardinals. At 6-foot-6, Wagner is skilled and active inside and seems to produce at a high rate no matter the opposition. He’s a player to watch for not just the next three days, but for three more years.
Teddy Allmaras, Sr., New Rockford-Sheyenne
One of the top scoring options for a team that scored more points per game than any team in the tournament. Allmara excels when the Rockets push the tempo and his ability to pressure a defense with his shooting and attack is a reason New Rockford-Sheyenne is one of most dangerous in the tournament.
Jonah Larson, Jr., Beulah
A solid interior scorer, Larson stays in his lane on the court and that’s generally, well, the lane. At 6-foot-5 and in possession of a big, strong, frame, Larson is consistent inside presence. He’s good at carving out space inside and has really nice footwork and post moves when he gets opportunities.
Noah Frederickson, Soph., Powers Lake
One of the few reliable scorers the Ranchers put on the floor, Frederickson is one of the best underclassmen in this tournament.
Hunter Thompson, Jr., New Rockford-Sheyenne
A terrific two-way player, Thompson was very good in the Rockets’ region tournament run. He’s an athletic swingman who can create havoc getting to the paint and either finishing or creating for his teammates.
Austin Molan, Sr., Ellendale
Ellendale’s best perimeter scorer, Molan’s been a catalyst for the Cardinals’ late-season surge. A skilled long-range shooter, Molan is a threat to score at all times and provides reliable, consistent shot-making on a team that can sometimes get bogged down otherwise
