Here are some of the players to watch from the four teams representing the Eastern Dakota Conference – Fargo Davies, West Fargo, Grand Forks Red River and Wahpeton
Braeton Motschenbacher, Sr., Fargo Davies
Fargo Davies is widely-considered the most talented team in the EDC and maybe even the state and Motschenbacher’s been the engine for the Eagles all year. Averaging 20.5 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4 assists per game, Motschenbacher’s been incredibly productive, consistent and efficient. He’s knocked down 67 3-pointers while connecting on 47 percent of his attempts. He’s their best perimeter shooter, he gets to the free throw line, he sets the table for everybody else. He’s the go-to guy for this team and if he’s good, Davies can absolutely win a state title.
Luke Lennon, Sr., West Fargo
Likely the Player-of-the-Year in the EDC, Lennon’s been a force all year for the Packers. The 6-foot-5 senior led the conference in scoring at 21 points per game while averaging 10 rebounds as well. He’s got a motor that never stops and his consistency has been a foundation for a Packer team that’s gotten better and better throughout the year.
Brady Dvorak, Jr., Grand Forks Red River
One of the complementary players in the Roughriders’ run to state a year ago, Dvorak is no the go-to guy and he’s adapted nicely. The 6-foot junior is one of the top guards in the EDC and averaged 15.6 points and 3.8 assists. His scoring has dipped in recent weeks but he’s still dangerous and capable of putting up 25 on any given night.
Jaden Klabo, Sr., Fargo Davies
One of the many talented seniors in the Eagles lineup, Klabo is a physical presence on the court and his ability to play inside and out while guarding multiple players on the court is a huge asset for Davies. Averaging 13.4 points and 5.4 rebounds, Klabo doesn’t put up huge numbers but he’s undoubtedly a big key.
Hunter Lyman, Jr., West Fargo
Lyman was a potential breakout candidate going into the year given his summer development and what he showed before missing his sophomore season with an injury and he’s delivered. The 6-foot-8 junior is second on the team in scoring and rebounding at 12.7 points and 8.0 boards. He and Lennon form arguably the best frontcourt in the state.
Bryce Rader, Sr., Wahpeton
Rader’s been a force for the Huskies all year, leading the team in scoring and rebounding. The 6-foot-3 senior is one of several big, strong and athletic bodies the Huskies use and he’s been effective, averaging 17.5 points and 7.4 rebounds while providing solid playmaking and defense.
Cole Hage, Jr., Fargo Davies
One of the most gifted offensive players in the EDC. Hage isn’t always a featured offensive player because of the depth that Davies has at its disposal but when he’s on, he’s capable of carrying this team. He’s very productive, averaging 13.6 points, 7.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.
Cam VanDam, Jr., Fargo Davies
VanDam has developed into a really nice, multifaceted player for the Eagles. At 6-foot-5, he’s uber productive on both ends of the floor. He’s a solid complementary scorer averaging 10.3 points and he’s a capable playmaker (3.7 assists). Where he really makes his mark is on the defensive end where he averages three blocks per game and can defend up or down the lineup.
Will Obioha, Freshman, Grand Forks Red River
Arguably the best freshman in the state and one of the few underclassmen producing at a high level at the Class A level, Obioha is big, strong and athletic. Averaging 12.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game, Obioha is a player to watch over the next few days, but also over the next few years.
Matt Miller, Jr., West Fargo
Miller’s been a big part of the answer to the question of who would fill minutes on the perimeter for the Packers this season. The junior guard averages 12.6 points and 3.7 assists and has turned it on as of late.
Bryce Enerson, Jr., Grand Forks Red River
Another key guy from last year’s tournament run, Enerson gives the Roughriders another solid body inside. He’s been efficient and consistent all season and stuffs the box score averaging 11.2 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists.
Josh Darwin, Sr., Wahpeton
Darwin is another one of the big, athletic forwards for the Huskies and he’s given them a second consistent scorer, averaging 11.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game.
