The Difference Maker. What separated Cathedral from BOLD? The long range shooting of Cathedral. Ethan Kirchberg made eight shots for Cathedral and seven of them were sunk from 20 feet and beyond. Six-foot-6 Jon Zinniel made several from the arc, Chris Knowles and Alex Hillesheim helped with perimeter shooting, and overall BOLD just didn’t have the bodies to close out on all five of their opponents.
A Top Available Prospect. Carter Henry fouled out of last night’s game and I would saw two of the whistles on him were fouls. The officiating last night wasn’t biased in any way that I could tell, but the big section of neutral fans I sat amongst all felt that the calls going against BOLD was another key reason for the L. And the worst calls seemed to go against Carter starting with an over the back call that left everybody shaking their head, and weak contact that shouldn’t have been whistled.
Carter himself was solid. The 6-foot-8 big did an outstanding job moving the ball out of the post hitting cutters and finding open players for open shots. Carter had six assists plus blocked three shots and grabbed five boards. Carter scored 18 points and has the potential to be a really nice player in the future. He’s a legit 6-foot-8 with a good frame and some bounce to him. Henry is a bit raw and needs some more seasoning.
Cathedral Seniors. Ethan Kirchberg and Alex Hillesheim are the senior leaders for Cathedral and both had a huge impact on last night’s win. Ethan scired a game high 26 points and only needed a dozen shots to get there. Most of his production was on triples and within the active ball movement scheme of Cathedral it fit right in. Alex Hillesheim had the highlight of the game with a steal followed by a dunk and a little flex for his opponent. Sure the 60 and over crowd was furious with the flex but seeing as every three made comes with a Fernando Rodney action I was cool with it (I’m sure Carter Henry wasn’t as it was sent at him). Alex had 14 points on a dozen shots.
Jordan Sagedahl’s Numbers. Six-foot-1 junior Jordan Sagedahl has led BOLD in scoring all year and the jack-of-all-trades put together a 23 point and nine board performance. Jordan returns to the team next year as does backcourt pair Drew Sagedahl and Gavin Vosika.
Prospect Watch. Six-foot-6 Jon Zinniel is one of these stretch forwards that continues to be a wanted commodity by colleges. Jon plays both frontcourt spots for the team and catch stretch a defense with his touch. Zinniel is solid around the basket and can use a dribble to separate and make a play when needed but what really separates Jon is his ability to stretch the floor.
