The first quarter was pretty competitive as both teams came out with a high amount of energy on both ends of the floor. The 2nd quarter is where South Central created separation and never looked back with a big time win to advance to the next round.
South Central HS Junior Dayron Sharpe: If you don’t know his name already, then you must not follow high school basketball. The 2020 big man is an absolute beast inside the paint but has expanded his game now to where he is handling the ball with more regularity, he finished with 32 points and 20 rebounds on the night.
Wakefield HS Senior Guard Elijah Shabazz: His scoring numbers won’t impress you, but if you watch the way he plays the game, you have no choice but to be impressed. Rebounding, defending and putting passes on point for his team are all things that he does very well and will translate on to the next level. At one point in the game he was matched up with big man Dayron Sharpe, and used his strength to try and slow him down as much as possible.
South Central HS Senior Guard Jahzeer Baker: Some CIAA programs have jumped on board with him and rightfully so, he has a very nice skillset and is a guard that can transition to the next level very smoothly. It seemed as if every time South Central made a big run or a momentum changing play offensively, he was part of it in some way.
Wakefield HS Senior Guard Trae Smith: Didn’t have his best shooting day but you can tell that he has a gift for scoring the ball and he doesn’t second guess himself. He has a nice pull-up jump shot that he uses in transition to keep the defense off balance, and although his form is unorthodox he gets his shot off pretty well.
South Central HS Senior Guard Shykiem Phillips: We have seen him fill it up scoring wise before but it seemed as if he wanted to take a different approach in the matchup, by getting others involved more often. He broke down defenders and made the right plays at the right time which helped to get the offense rolling at a nice rate.
Wakefield HS Senior Forward Kharye Cayne: He recently made the decision to reclassify into the 2020 class, and attend Carolina Basketball Academy next year. His height and length are things that you have to love and he shows flashes of how good he can be with rebounding the ball and blocking shots.
South Central HS Senior Wing Shy’Quan Jones: One of my favorite players on the day as far as a prospect goes. He has a lot of the tools that you love to see for a college wing, he can defend at a solid level, is a legit 6’5, has nice athletic ability and knows how to score the ball in multiple ways.
Wakefield HS Senior Guard Ja’Ques Shields: One of the smallest players on the court at 5’3, he plays the game with a toughness and heart that you have to love. He doesn’t back down from any challenge and was constantly attacking the defense whenever he got the opportunity.
