This game was intriguing to us with three unsigned seniors who have created buzz over the last year. It was never in doubt as South Elgin jumped out early and rolled to a 57-35 victory. We dive into those unsigned seniors and more in our Most Intriguing Prospects: South Elgin vs Harlem.
PF Vincent Miszkiewcz (South Elgin – 2019)
The biggest reason we wanted to evaluate this game was Miszkiewcz. The 6’7” senior forward has helium heading into the end of his senior season. Recently landed a D1 offer from Incarnate Word and a D2 from Northwest Purdue. We hadn’t seen him so we wanted to see what all the hype was about. He has excellent size, strength, and length. Probably projects at the next level best as a face up four man. Struggled to finish early in the game around the hoop through contact. He got it rolling in the second half. Bouncy athlete that threw down a monster dunk off a lob. Scored with quickness on the interior. As the game went on he was more comfortable handling it on the perimeter including crossing his man up on the way to the hoop for an athletic and-1. Was more than capable of pushing in the open floor. He proved to be a solid passer from his forward spot. The senior was outstanding on the boards! He snatched them in traffic all night long. Quick to the glass and was aggressive going after them. Was also an excellent rim protector. Swats shots with both hands while not drawing fouls. Had several steals and deflections using his length in passing lanes. Final stat line was 17 points, 17 rebounds, 5 blocks, and 3 assists.
G Drake Montgomery (South Elgin – 2019)
Montgomery impressed us on the camp circuit back in the fall. The 6’2” combo guard is a crafty player that has a burst with the ball especially in transition. Attacks with strength off the bounce. Sound layup maker that got to the hoop with ease throughout the game. Also has a solid passing feel especially finding his big man. Went for 14 points.
PG Trace Ashby (South Elgin – 2019)
Ashby is a 5’11” point guard. This scrappy guard hit a scoop shot, was fouled on a pull up jumper, and scored on a drive for 8 points.
SG Jace Warrick (South Elgin – 2019)
Warrick can shoot the basketball from the perimeter. Knocked down a pair of threes. Floor spacing guard had 9 points.
PG Treye Tucker (Harlem – 2019)
Tucker put Harlem basketball on the map. This flashy 5’9” point guard has always been so much fun to watch. Tucker is a creative ball handler that can shoot it with range. Connected on three triples. Several times he created his own shot with his handles before pulling up to nail a shot. Crafty finisher in the lane with floaters and acrobatic layups. Crisp passer that finds teammates in both the half court and transition. Went for 17 points and 5 dimes.
SG David Williams (Harlem – 2019)
Williams is an undersized two guard at 6’1” that can shoot it from the perimeter. Was the recipient of several Tucker dishes which he converted for threes. Also hit a baseline jumper en route to 8 points.
PF Trey’Shaun Jones (Harlem – 2019)
Jones has size at 6’6” and solid athleticism. Would have liked to seen him be more active and rebound better in this one. Did have a nice block on South Elgin’s big man. Converted a couple bullet passes in traffic for four points.
