Rockford East would come back to take the lead at the end of the third quarter. They went on to win 70-62. Here are the Most Intriguing Prospects: Rockford East vs Geneva.
SG Sincere Parker (Rockford East – 2020)
Parker started off a bit slow, but the D1 prospect in the junior class absolutely went on an epic run the rest of the way. Parker is a long and lanky two guard with projectability and upside. He showed that off in this game. Used his length on the defensive end to create turnovers. Offensively he displayed his feathery jumper knocking down five triples including one where he was completely falling down when he shot it. Most of the time though he showed both pulling up and off the catch a quick, consistent, and fluid shot. Also ran the floor where he was rewarded for scores. Handles continue to improve breaking down guys in tight spaces. He had 27 points in the win. Really looking forward to two more evals of him in Peoria.
SG Christopher Burnell (Rockford East – 2019)
Burnell was quiet early, but like Parker got it going as this one went along. Burnell is a powerful slasher that likes to get downhill. He did just that taking it to the rim with strength for several layups including an impressive length of the court one. Closed out the game at the line with free throws for 16 points.
SF Sha’den Clanton (Rockford East – 2019)
Clanton is a unique prospect as this lefty likes working from the mid-range in. He backed his man in from the perimeter using angles before getting fouled. Quickness in the paint and slashing from the mid-post area are what he does best. Finished well in the paint for 14 points.
SF Mitch Mascari (Geneva – 2019)
Mascari is one of the more coveted D2 prospects in the state and he looked like a D1 recruit in this game. Good size and length on the perimeter. He is a plus shooter from deep with well beyond college three point range. On the college court he was bombing them in. He hit an array of threes off the catch. Also mixed in drives including a strong take where he jump stopped in the lane before scoring. Went for 21 points.
PG Jack McDonald (Geneva – 2019)
McDonald is an Augustana commit. The senior point guard was phenomenal passing the rock in this game. Such an advanced feel for the game and runs their offense to perfection. Crisp dishes both in the half court and transition. Really high basketball IQ. Pass first point guard that makes others around him better. Struggled scoring in the paint. Missed a lot of buckets that he usually makes. Late hit a couple threes to keep his team in the game. He had 13 points and 10 dimes.
F Kross Garth (Geneva – 2019)
Garth is an athletic glue guy. He finished on dump offs and tip ins. Gritty combo forward also had an and-1. Went for 8 points.
F Josh Preston (Geneva – 2020)
Preston is another tough glue guy for this team. The 6’4” forward has a high skill level. The scrappy 3/4 man knocked down a pair of threes. Scored inside on layups including stealing the inbound pass. Skilled passer. Went for 14 points.
