The low-scoring affair was tight from start to finish, but in the end it was the Ladue Rams who escaped with a 48-45 victory to earn a berth to the state quarterfinals.
Here is a look at some of the top performers from Wednesday night’s Ladue-Jennings game.
Jaylen Boyd 6’1″ Ladue (’20) – The talented lefty scored a game-high 16 points and provided one of biggest plays of the 2019 season. With the Rams trailing 38-34 with 3.1 seconds left in regulation, Boyd made the first free throw, missed the second intentionally, got his own rebound and dribbled back to the 3-point line and swished the game-tying trey to send the game into overtime. He scored seven points in the last 10 seconds of regulation and took over the overtime with his twisting drives to the basket and razor-sharp passing.
Moses Okpala 6’7″ Ladue (’19) – The 260-pound University of Illinois football recruit had a productive night with 12 points and 10 rebounds and some stout defense in the post. He came on strong in the third quarter where he scored six points and helped stake the Rams to an eight point lead at the end of the third quarter. He stepped out and made a couple of 15-footers from the high post and also scored on a physical drive to the basket.
Evan Schneider 6’6″ Ladue (’20) – The young post player also enjoyed a big outing with 12 points and 12 rebounds as he and fellow post Okpala held the fort of offense when the perimeter shots weren’t falling. He scored well in the low post, had a few offensive put backs and also threw down a couple of slam dunks in traffic.
Tre’von Love 6’0″ Jennings (’21) – A talented young guard who has a nice future ahead of him after a strong postseason tournament. He scored a team-high 13 points for the Warriors. He is quick and has nice handles and can get to the basket by going in either direction. He knocked down a couple of 3-pointers and scored in transition as well.
Elijah Hicks 6’3″ Jennings (’19) – The bullish senior wing player finished his career with 12 points. He was at his best when he was attacking the basket and scoring in traffic. He uses his physical strength well to bully his way to the basket, plus he can score in the low post and knock down mid range jumpers off the dribble.
