These two squads have multiple D1 prospect on each side and their stars showed out in this one. Powerhouse who beat The Truth at the 17U level on Friday would also get a program victory Sunday as they won a close contest 67-65. Here are the players that stood out in Powerhouse 16U vs The Truth 16U!
Powerhouse 16U
PF Daron Holmes
This 6’9” power forward has had a phenomenal weekend cementing his status as a top 50 player nationally in the 2021 class. The long and lanky four man is a plus athlete that does damage across the board! He was outstanding on the glass rebounding in traffic with his explosive burst off the ground. Also had a ton of swats including a huge block late. Finishes above the rim with authority in the paint. Flashing an emerging face up game where he can take his man off the dribble.
PG Justus Jackson
Jackson is a 6’2” point guard that is a dynamic scoring combo. He knocked down jumpers from all over the floor, but was most effective from mid-range where he consistently drilled them pulling up off the bounce.
PG Brett Hardt Jr
This lefty guard ran the show for Powerhouse. High IQ guard that reads the defense and finds open teammates. Also displayed range on his jumper knocking down a pair of threes along with a sweet runner. Sound shooter and overall skilled offensive weapon.
SG D’Marco Dunn
Dunn is a wing at 6’5” that has size and is a utility guy. The scrappy wing does a little bit of everything out there defending and has a nose for the basketball.
SF JT Elder
This 6’7” small forward has athleticism and the ability to attack the glass with a quick second jump for tip ins. A lot of intriguing upside here with his physical tools.
The Truth 16U
SG Reese Dixon
At 6’5” this long and rangy two guard was outstanding on Sunday morning for The Truth. Ultra smooth scoring guard with slick handles which allow him to get where he wants on the floor at any time. He had multiple athletic takes off the bounce where he displayed smooth acceleration getting by his defenders. Go to scorers mentality. Knocked down a pair of triples showing sound mechanics on the jumper. Can play both on and off the ball. Contributed on the boards too.
SF Joshua Uphold
This 6’6” small forward got things going early for The Truth. Tough wing that plays physical in the lane with his strength. Crafty game in the lane hitting a floater, getting on the glass for a put back, and drilling a hook shot. Nice outing from the 2021 prospect.
SF Peyton Watson
Watson stands at 6’6” with plus athleticism. Shot blocking presence and the upside to be a force on the defensive end of the floor. He can put it on the deck a little. Converted a pair of sweet up and unders at the rim.
PF Damion McDowell
Another impressive performer for The Truth was 6’6” forward Damion McDowell. The 2021 made an impression early by blocking a shot, ran the floor hard, and was rewarded with a seal/score for two points. Flashed skill on a shot fake and mid-range jumper. Flies in for rebounds!
