Hard Work Region Preview: Windy City Magic
Although it is still in the middle of the high school basketball season we are already looking ahead to the travel team circuit this spring. We will be previewing the teams participating in the PrepHoops Circuit Hard Work Region over the next few months.
Below is our chat with Mark Serdar of Windy City Magic travel team program previewing this upcoming season!
The 17U Windy City Magic is a guard heavy team that gets up and down the floor, plays great team defense, and shoot the 3 in waves. The team is primarily made up of players from high schools located in the SW suburbs of Chicago including Carl Sandburg, Lockport, Providence Catholic, and Andrew.
Three Carl Sandburg guards include the 6-3 Atharva Atreya, a long and silky PG that played off the ball for Sandburg this season and was the team’s primary deep ball threat. The basketball is in his hands much more for the Magic where his vision and open court talents are on display. He was a finalist as a sophomore in IHSA’s state 3-point shooting contest. Zachary Kusper is 5’8” point guard with excellent vision. Leo Serdar is another serious 3-ball threat that knocked down 58 triples during last year’s 16U summer session in July.
From Lockport HS, 6-5 Tommy Ferriter is another long wing on this Magic team. Usually drawing bigger players, Tommy can be a mismatch nightmare for the opponents. Jake Kaczmarek excels as a defensive ball hawk and in your face on ball defender.
A drive first point from Providence, Joey Alfirivich can get into the lane at will and has a masterful short game around the rim. Noah Vassall is an athletic guard that gets up and down the floor and changes pace well. Luke Pell rounds out the trio of Providence players who lead the Celtics this year in scoring for a majority of their games.
Noah O’Connor from Andrew HS rejoins the team after missing the last AAU season because of injury. Noah was one of the team’s leading shooters during 15U.
