Hard Work Region Preview: Team Future 2022
We may be on the tail end of high school basketball season but it’s not too early to look ahead to what’s coming up on the AAU circuit. Over the next few months we will be taking a look at the teams that will be participating in the Prep Hoops Circuit Hard Work Region and here’s a look at Team Future 2022.
Team Future will compete in the 15U age division of the Hard Work Region and will be at Hard Work Live, Battle at the Lakes, Havoc in the Heartland, the Show Me Showdown and the Hard Work Region Finals.
I recently caught up with Team Future Director Steve St. John to learn more about the program and what to expect from his team this season:
Why did you start your program? How long have you been around?
Team Future has been around for 5 years with a majority of the players on our 2022 team having played together for all of these years.
What is the goal of your program for 2019?
Our goal this season is the same it has been every season: to improve individually and as a team. We want to be better in July than we are in March. Additionally, our program offers opportunity for growth on and off the court with team building and community service.
Do you know of any players that will be back in your program this year? Who should we have our eye on?
We are fortunate to have a group of talented players that are tight-knit that like playing with each other. As a result, we have kids staying in our program despite other opportunities available. We return 6 players from last year’s team. We have some uber talented individual players that are even better with our brand of team basketball. We have a backcourt of Davis Olson, Chase Newton and Carter St. John that are cerebral, steady and scrappy guards. Charles Chanin, Dejuan Echoles and Mason Thompson are very versatile, skilled and long players that will do everything from stretching a zone with their shooting ability to putting the ball on the floor and playing inside……these 3 will be tough to defend. Camron Jones and Reid Wesley will predominantly play inside and bring a combination of skill and size.
Why did you choose the Prep Hoops Circuit?
Prep Hoops Circuit provides a great opportunity for our team to have a manageable travel schedule while playing against some of the better programs in the midwest. Our program has followed Prep Hoops with several of our players having participated in Prep Hoops events – we anticipate the exposure provided by the circuit will be beneficial for our team and players. We are looking forward to competing in the Prep Hoops Circuit.
