The USA Basketball program is in it’s second year of inviting the top underclassmen from around the country to a four day event that is held on the same floor as the NCAA’s college hoops final four and championship. Some of the top 2020, 2021, or 2022 prospects will not attend due to the 2019 GEICO Nationals are during the same time period. Auburn commit 2019 F Isaac Okoro of McEachern High School was one of the 2019 prospects from around the country to be invited to represent the peach state during last year’s final four game.
This year his AAU teammate and high school teammate, 2020 PG Sharife Cooper, has received the invite this year as well. Sharife’s status for the camp will be pending for now, as McEachern has won the the class 7A state championship and that was all they needed to secure a spot in the GEICO Nationals field that is held in New York, New York April 4-6th. Sharife has been proving all year long that he is the best point guard in his class and leading his squad to an amazing 32-0 overall record. This will be Sharife’s second time participating in the USA mini-camp after making his debut in the camp back in October.
Speaking of AAU teammates, Nike EYBL Athletes of Tomorrow (GA) and Norcross High School 2020 W Brandon Boston Jr. also received an invite to participate in the camp. The 6-foot-7 wing has had an outstanding season as well and stock rising type of year at that. Boston, like Cooper and Okoro, received an invitation to the USA mini camp back in October and he also received an invitation to the U17 Team tryouts back in June alongside Okoro. Unfortunately BJ did not make the U17 team and it seems like that added fuel to his fire coming into his junior season because his stock has been rising all season long.
2021 SG Chance Moore of Holy Innocents has also received an invite for the USA Basketball Mini-Camp. Chance has burst onto the national scene after his outstanding performance at the Holiday Hoopsgiving back in November. Since then, he has received major recognition and his hard work has paid off after receiving this invite. Not many players in his class received one and that just goes to show you that Chance could be a very special player, if not already. He has received offers already from schools like Georgia, Clemson, Florida State, and others.
Alongside Chance representing the underclassmen will be 2022 PG Dillon Hunter of Westlake High School. The freshman point guard, Dillon Hunter, had a lot of buzz coming into his freshman year and was on the watch list for one of the best 2022 prospects in the country. He had a stellar season leading the Westlake Lions to an 18-11 overall record and earning a region championship. Hunter, like Boston Jr., Cooper, and Okoro, also participated in the October mini-camp in the beginning of the season. The 6-foot-3 point guard has earned offers from Florida State, Clemson, and Georgia and his older brother, Chase Hunter, has already commited to play basketball at Clemson next fall.
