But, for a little peak into the future, we give you our look at those teams to watch next season for each class. This is our way-too-early look at the 2A Rankings heading into the 2019-2020 season.
***Some teams will move classes based on reclassification rules and/or legacy points.
Top Teams 2A:
- Blackhawk Christian – This team just got done winning a State Championship in 1A and while they will lost Frankie Davison and move up a class, it should still probably be the team to beat there as well. Caleb Furst and Zane Burke are coming back to lead the way.
- Andrean – Andrean also will graduate some key guys but they have to be a team to be scared of again. Kyle Ross, Ben Jones, Deshon Burnett, Nick Flesher, Eric Goodes all return and could be your starting lineup.
- Linton-Stockton – Linton will lose more than any other highly rated 2A team but their best player comes back in Lincoln Hale. Him and Kip Fougerousse should be able to provide some offense but it will be interesting to see who else steps up.
- Shenandoah – This team will be one of the best in 2A for the next two years. All sophomores this season and they made it to Semistate. Expectations should only go up. Their starting lineup should return as a whole.
- Covington – This is a team to watch. They could move to 1A but if they stay, they have all of their biggest talents coming back and could end up being very good with a high-powered offense. Don’t be shocked if they are playing late in March.
- Park Tudor – This team has been young for the last two years but next year is the first year where expectations should be decently high. They bring back everyone except Tristan Bufkin. Good size, skill, and toughness from this group should allow them to play well.
- Paoli – Brett Bosley proved he is the guy to watch in Southern Indiana with his play this March. He’s so tough and with talent around him, this team has a ton of upside and should be one of the best in 2A pretty easily and a tough matchup.
- Southwestern (Hanover) – This team could have been in the State Championship game this year, no question about it. Just a last play that beat them. And while losing Tyler Kramer and Hunter Mefford hurts, this team is still very much in contention with Matt Williams and Foster Mefford back.
- Westview – While they lose some more pieces, they do return one of the best pieces in Charlie Yoder. Their system should allow them to play at a fairly high level. Will it be enough to get one more run out of this group? Too early to tell but hard to imagine they are good.
- Wapahani – One of the sneaky teams to watch. With Frankton and Lapel in full rebuild mode, Wapahani brings back David Spence and Andrew Luce in their backcourt as seniors and should be tough with a good offense.
