Drew Pember (pictured) >> Matthew Thurman
EDGE: Bearden.
Pember easily won the tussle with sophomore Matthew Thurman. Though Thurman is also likely to play college baketball like the Tennessee-signee, Pember dashed circles around the big. Pember is wonderful in the open floor and blocked shots easily against the FHS guards.
Reed Kemp < Ques Glover
EDGE: Bearden.
Reed is not physical enough yet and Ques is a wizard. Glover took many outside shots, perhaps coaxed into them by the 1-3-1 of Franklin. Ques was not incredible, but he was effective in bursts. Reed and Franklin will gladly take a small loss against Glover if they can win the Reese Glover/Trent Stephney matchup.
Reese Glover >> Trent Stephney
EDGE: Franklin.
Reese wasn’t great or even good. He did scored 8 points on 2-8 shooting in the opening half. Unfortunately for Bearden, Glover drew fouls on several players and a second foul on Drew Pember. Trent didn’t give anything offensively (1 point).
Toughness >> Officials
Silly charge calls on minimal contact. Nobody benefits from overbearing officiating.
Shamarcus Brown < Ahsharri Haynesworth
EDGE: Franklin
The best battle of the half occurred between the power forwards. Haynesworth knocked down three three-pointers and proved he continues to expand his game. Brown is a D2-level wing forward in the senior class. Haynesworth is working to get to that level after his 17u season, which begins next month.
Jordan Bruce = Roman Robinson
EDGE: Push.
Jordan is the better catch-and-shoot player, but Bearden doesn’t give much room around the halo. Bruce didn’t get any looks at the the rim. His one chance came from a kickout courtesy of Reese Glover, but the pass was just one foot outside Bruce’s shooting pocket and the adjustment lasted beyond the close of the shooting window. Roman is fleet-footed, but did not get many touches against the 1-3-1 in dangerous areas.
