SACRAMENTO, CA—During the playoffs in the Southern Section, things can get a bit redundant at times watching the same teams and match-ups over and over again. However, the CIF State Championships can get quite intriguing because there is a bit of the unknown involved, especially with the lower divisions as Ribet Academy and Fresno Immanuel come immediately to mind.
Yuuto Williams (Ribet Academy)
2021, C, 6-foot-8, 190 pounds
Joel’s Take: Williams possesses great length with long arms, solid hands, and good feet. He runs well in transition and can finish on the break. Defensively, he shows nice timing as a rim protector, but he needs to get stronger to rebound in traffic. Offensively, he needs to continue to improve his inside-out skills as a stretch 4-man.
Winston Williams (Reedley/Immanuel)
2021, PF, 6-foot-4, 225 pounds
Joel’s Take: Williams has a strong stocky frame with solid length and he’s a solid athlete who pays with a high motor. He does a great job carving out space in the paint and has a knack to rebound in and out of his area. He shows a nice touch from the charity stripe, yet has the physicality to finish through contact.
Marcus Reedy (Ribet Academy)
2020, WF, 6-foot-6, 170 pounds
Joel’s Take: Reedy has that prototypical wing-type frame and he is a menace at the defensive end. His rangy frame, motor, and active hands allows him to guard multiple postions. His offensive game needs refining (triple threat game and jump shot), but he’s a sleeper for the next level.
Ignacio Camacho (Ribet Academy)
2020, C/PF, 6-foot-8, 200 pounds
Joel’s Take: Yet another sleeper going forward. Camacho shows solid fundamentals in the paint where he keeps the ball high and he has soft hands. He plays with a solid motor and he is Keeps the ball high, has soft hands, and he plays with a solid motor.
