West Allis Central
The Bulldogs are coming off a scare from 7-seed Milwaukee Riverside in the regional finals. Up next for Central is a date with 3-seed Franklin, a team that’s a thorn in everyone’s side. A well-coached unit that doesn’t beat themselves, all five losses for the Sabres this season have come by three points or less. Franklin has won their first two playoff games by an average of 20.5 points, including a thumping of Marquette on Saturday.
Sussex Hamilton
A team that reached the Division 1 semifinals last season and is arguably the favorite to win the gold ball this season, Hamilton better not get caught looking ahead to the Kohl Center. In Hartford, the Chargers will take on a dangerous Homestead squad that has 20 wins and has played toe-to-toe with Nicolet, the state’s best team, twice. The Highlanders are coming off a very impressive victory at Arrowhead in the regional finals, cooling off a red hot unit on their home floor.
Kimberly
The good news for the Papermakers? Neenah is not going to sneak up on them. Heading into Thursday’s sectional semifinal, the two teams have already met twice in Fox Valley Association play with Kimberly taking both matchups. However, both games were decided by three points, and as we all know, it’s very difficult to beat a team three times in one season.
La Crosse Central
Speaking of beating a team three times in one season, that’s what La Crosse Central will have to do in order to advance to their fourth-straight sectional final. The final score in the two previous matchups with Onalaska suggests that the Red Raiders blew them out, when in reality, the first halves were very competitive until Central dropped the hammer late. The Red Raiders have been standing between the Hilltoppers and a trip to state for years. At some point Onalaska has to get over the hump, right?
Green Bay Southwest
Time to find out if the Trojans are contenders or pretenders. Southwest has been considered among the top teams in Divsion 2, but don’t have any wins against marquee opponents. On Thursday, they’ll get a chance to take down the defending Division 2 state champions, who have been rolling in the playoffs. Kaukauna comes in with an average margin of victory of 35.5 ppg this postseason.
