Here are some takeaways from the match-up:
Armon Harried leads the Lakers
After yesterday’s double-double effort of 27 points and 12 rebounds, the 6-foot-4 Harried followed up with 35 points and 12 rebounds to lead his team to a second-straight state title. Harried’s 35 points is the most a player has scored since 2008. He shot 13-for-24 from the field and connected on four of his 10 three’s.
South Garrett’s duo with solid outing
Tyler Rodeheaver and Dalton Wiles paced the Rams throughout the weekend. They scored 21 and 18 points respectively in last night’s game and despite today’s loss, recorded 14 points and 11 points. As a team, the Rams struggled mightily to shoot and ultimately saw their 20-game winning streak come to an end.
Mike Gray with another tough-nosed performance
Along with being a primary option offensively, Gray is also the bulldog that leads this Lake Clifton team. Today, his three-point shot helped separate his team in the first half. The 5-foot-11 guard connected on four triples in the first 16 minutes of play. Defensively, Gray put together another strong performance with active hands that always seems to jar the ball loose even when his opponent gets a defensive rebound. Gray recorded 22 points, shooting 8-for-14 from the field and 6-for-8 from three.
Lake Clifton tees off from deep
The three-point shot isn’t necessarily known as being the bread and butter to the Lakers’ attack, but today it was very much that. In fact, they shot 10-for-19 and all were made by Gray and Harried. This duo has been giving opponents fits all season by being tough, rugged finishers around the rim, so when their shots are falling like they were today, it’s almost impossible to beat them.
The future of 1A?
Coach Harried has made history being the first head coach to win at every class level. Considering this was the first season playing in 1A, it’s an impressive feat to be deemed the best school in that initial year. The Lakers saw plenty of success as a 2A member, but with this win they send a statement that the class will now have to go through them.
