After a slow start, Loyola went into halftime trailing the Panthers by seven, but St. Frances responded with a strong second half and pulled away for the 63-42 win.
Here were five intriguing prospects from this game:
Jamal West | St. Frances ’20
West continues his postseason tear with another strong performance in last night’s game. The 6-foot-5 forward finished with 16 points on 5-of-10 shooting and nine rebounds. West was a force catching the ball on the block and bullying his way to the rim per usual. Loyola forced him into some challenged shots early on, but when the Dons when to a 2-3 zone, West found the holes in the back line and freed himself for close looks.
Cam Smith | Loyola ’21
Smith was thrown into the starting lineup as the Dons were dealing with some injuries. The 6-foot-6 sophomore was impressive, leading his team with 12 points. Smith showed his versatility as a scorer by making two three’s, a couple of pull-ups and a strong take to the rim. He is one to watch as a prospect for Loyola in the future years.
Jordan Toles | St. Frances ’20
Toles was an immediate impact off the bench for St. Frances. As soon as he checked in, he scores four points on his first two touches. The 6-foot-2 guard led his team with 17 points on an efficient 7-of-9 shooting from the field. In the third quarter when St. Frances began to separate themselves, Toles, who was recently offered by Maryland, buried back-to-back three’s to add insult to injury for the Dons. Toles did a great job of getting out early on the break and finishing around the rim.
Jason Murphy | St. Frances ’19
Murphy made his presence felt on the glass as soon as the first shot went up. He finished with six points and 12 rebounds in just 14 minutes of play. He collected seven of the team’s 14 offensive rebounds where he would either finish himself or kick it out to a teammate to set up a play.
Rajeir Jones | St. Frances ’19
Jones was key in St. Frances having success breaking Loyola’s 2-3 zone. The Chicago State commit converting on three of his four made three-pointers in the third quarter. Jones finished with 16 points and five rebounds to contribute to a very balanced scoring attack for the Panthers.
