Here were five intriguing prospects from this one:
RJ Blakney | Goretti ’19
Blakney flat out dominated this game. The 6-foot-5 wing finished with a game-high 29 points, 11 rebounds and five steals. Six of his 11 rebounds came on the offensive end and helped support his efficient shooting line of 11-for-15 from the field. Guarding Blakney in the open court seemed to be almost impossible with the force and athleticism that he can finish with. Even in the half court, he did a great job of using his strength to create close looks from 15 feet and in. Defensively, he was extremely aggressive in passing lanes and it paid off, as shown by his five steals.
James Bishop | Mt. St. Joe ’19
The LSU commit finished with a team-high 20 points on 8-of-17 shooting from the field. It was challenging for Bishop to free himself from Blakney in the half court, and even when he did, the length that Goretti has around the rim makes it extremely difficult for good looks. Still, he slithered his way multiple times through the Gorretti defense and finished with soft touch.
James Searcy | Goretti ’19
Searcy put together a solid performance of 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field and 2-of-4 from deep. The 6-foot-4 guard helped his team get off to a commanding lead by scoring eight of his 13 in the first quarter. Goretti does a great job of moving the ball offensively, so Searcy’s hot start opened up opportunities for others as the game progressed.
Rahsaan Edwards | Goretti ’19
Edwards had a quiet first half, but scored all of his 11 points in the third and fourth quarter. The 5-foot-11 point guard did a nice job of getting to the free-throw line in the second half and converting by shooting 5-of-6. Edwards was also key as the spearhead for the Goretti full-court press, stealing the ball five times and giving his team fast break opportunities. As always, Edwards did a phenomenal job communicating on the floor and leading.
Przmek Golek | Goretti ’19
Golek couldn’t find his shot at all last night, finishing the game 1-of-8 from the field and 0-of-5 from three. He didn’t let that stop him from impacting the game, though. The 6-foot-4 guard had a team-high four assists. Golek is known for being a knockdown shooter, so even when he isn’t finding his target, the defense is forced to account for him. Golek was doing a nice job of attacking the close-outs and forcing the defense to rotate. From there, he’d find the open teammate for a three or an easy two. Golek is also an excellent help side defender. He took two charges after rotating when a teammate was beat off the dribble.
