Both players showed up and showed out this weekend but there were some others that turned heads as well, so lets take a look at the standout Junior class performers.
South Central HS Junior Forward Dayron Sharpe: Dayron is an absolute beast on the court and the scary part is that he is still adding to his game. We have seen him dominate in the paint on both ends of the floor but he’s now showing the ability to take the ball coast to coast as well as knocking down the three point shot. UNC fans should be very excited about having this young man already committed as he has proven himself to be a player that should be in the talks for top Forwards nationally.
Greene Central Junior Zach Taylor: He will be one to keep a close eye on for next season, he has nice athletic ability and has shown flashes of his skillset. At 6’4 he has the size to be a wing on the next level and if he continues to work, he could see his recruitment rise over the next year.
Farmville Central Junior Justin Wright: We have been fans of his game for some years now and we like how well he has developed which comes from the time he has put into his game. He came out the locker room hot, knocking down a bunch of points in a hurry, showing his ability to knock down the deep ball as well as get into the paint. Scoring was not the only attribute that he showed however, he also rebounds and defends at a solid level, Wright’s stock is clearly on the rise.
Farmville Central Junior Guard Samage Teel: At times many may overlook what he brings to the table as a player but time and time again he has stepped up for his squad. He is an outstanding shooter from outside and you won’t see him take excessive dribbles to get to the spots that he needs to go, solid overall prospect and player.
Henderson Collegiate Junior Guard Kalib Matthews: He had somewhat of an off shooting night but he didn’t allow that to check him out of the game mentally. His IQ for the game was on display at he attacked the gaps of the defense and made some very good passes to teammates.
Millbrook HS Junior Forward Sam Hood: We like the upside that he has to his game to go along with the skillset that he already possess. Sometimes on teams that are deep with talent and have upperclassmen leadership, you may be seeing a younger player with talent in a role that could be larger in different circumstances. With that being said we fully expect him to have a big time season next year for this squad as they will look to bounce back and make another run.
Henderson Collegiate Junior Kameron Brooks: He plays bigger than his height suggest, as you can constantly finding the 6’2 forward attacking the paint or pulling down rebounds. His 13 points on the day won’t necessarily wow you but he put together what we would call timely baskets to help his squad.
Washington County Junior Forward De’andre Downing: He finished the game with 7 points and 15 rebounds while not playing in the 4th quarter at all. This just shows what type of energy and effort the 6’5 forward brings to the table whenever he is on the floor.
