There were several players that put together some outstanding performances and we will take a closer look at those individuals as they are names that everyone should know.
Greene Central Senior Imajae Dodd: His team came up short to a loaded Farmville Central squad, but Dodd gave it everything he had. He protected the paint on the defensive end, blocking shots at a high rate, as well as rebounding the ball well on both ends of the floor. We got the chance to see his offensive skillset as well with some post moves and a midrange jumper that has improved over the years in a major way.
Greene Central Senior Donte Johnson: Toughness is one of the things that we have always seen from Johnson and that showed on Saturday. He took what looked like a very hard fall but got back up and continued to play the game in a physical manner, the 6’4 forward is one that colleges should be contacting.
Farmville Central Senior Forward Dyquavis Wilkins: He understands his role and plays it well which is something that college coaches should love. He runs the floor, finishes above the rim, blocks shots and rebounds it well by using his wingspan and athletic ability.
Washington County Senior Center Calvin Singleton: He stepped up for his squad, coming up with some solid numbers rebounding the ball and getting after it on the defensive end. One of the things we liked about his performance was how active and engaged he was throughout, having a big man that brings energy to the floor for your team is always a positive.
South Central HS Senior Forward Cydney Williams: We like the energy that he brings to the team when he’s on the floor. He doesn’t score a ton of points or pull down double digit rebounds but he gets after it defensively and can make plays above the rim on offense.
South Central HS Senior Forward Shy’Quan Jones: JUCO programs need to get on him ASAP, as we were informed by his coach that he will need to take the JC route. He still has some areas of his game that he will need to fine tune but we love what he brings to the court and the potential that he has. He’s a legit 6’5, with nice athletic ability, defends pretty well and plays the game with a consistent high motor.
South Central HS Senior Guard Jahzeer Baker: The workers mentality that he brings to the team is infectious as he is one of the leaders on this squad. He has a smooth but quick shooting form that allows him to get his shot of quickly as well as knocking down shots consistently. Over the course of the season he has proven himself as a legit D2 prospect and already has picked up some offers and interest.
South Central HS Senior Guard Shykeim Phillips: In the previous round, we saw him take on more of a facilitating role, running the offense and getting everybody involved. In this matchup he was aggressive from the start, constantly attacking defenders and scoring the ball at a very high level. He is a legit D1 PG prospect and quite a few programs such as Towson and Elon have dropped in to check on him.
