In the second game of D2 action, Trotwood-Madison absolutely had the best showing they could. They defeated Akron Butchel 102-72.
Standout Notes:
Taquan Simington (6’2″ / G 2020 / Columbus South): Simington was once again impressive on Thursday evening. The junior is bouncy and had a great feel to the game. 8- 11 from the field was a very efficient game for him. Also, seven rebounds and four assists, the South Bulldog had a nice all-around showing. Finishing at the hoop was a big strength for Simington, able to maneuver around bigger players and put it in the cup. Super athletic Simington is all-around a stud player, two steals on the defensive side to add as well.
Landen Russell (6’1″ / G 2021 / Sheridan): Coming in, I had never seen the sophomore play. Quickly I came away impressed as he was his teams most efficient player. 7-9 from the field, Russell put in a nice 15 point game to lead his team. A mid range pull-up, to go along with a floater are Russell’s best ways of putting points on the board. On the boards, the sophomore got his team multiple second chances. Not the best showing for Sheridan on the big stage, but Landen Russell was a stud.
Amari Davis (6’4” / G 2019 / Trotwood-Madison): Amari Davis did what he wanted against Butchel. Getting in the lane, or his turnaround lefty jumper. Davis is a very good scorer from all three levels, and can rise up. Starting the second half with six straight points and a steal, Davis was a force. Quick hands to poke the ball loose, Davis puts his team in transition often. Scoring 33 points in total, Davis went off.
Ronnell Perie ll (6’2” / 2021 / Akron Butchel): Ronnell Perie is a younger prospect, that really surprised me coming in. The lefty has a sweet stroke from deep, that he let fire often. Leading his team with 16 point — he displayed his quick release often. A player that plays hard on both ends, and competes for 32 minutes. Perie should be pretty good, especially when he adds a bit of size.
Carl Blanton (6’3” / G 2020 / Trotwood-Madison): Carl Blanton is another prospect that showed up on Thursday night. His team’s second option against Butchel, and the junior thrived in that position. Solid cutting ability to the rim, Blanton showed some explosiveness at times, also a mid-range game. Also, a tough player who will pick you up the court distance. Very athletic and has some bounce to him, D2 coaches should be in on the junior.
