In the second game, Lutheran East defeated Cardinal Stritch 58-53, to move on to play Harvest Prep. We are set up to see a spectacular D3 championship game!
Division Three Takeaways:
1. CJ Anthony is a force downhill – CJ Anthony went for 17 points in the win over Cincinnati Purcell. Scoring nine of his points in the second half, he was big in Harvest Prep taking control of this one. Playing downhill, Anthony is like a running back that won’t be stopped. Able to use different finishing moves at the hoop, the junior made it tough on the Purcell defense. Adding his defensive abilities, rebounding and creating skills, Anthony had a solid output early Thursday.
2. Harvest Prep plays a brand of defense that can take teams out of games at times – Harvest Prep got this game back under control after forcing Purcell to go scoreless for a few minutes at a time, multiple times. The Warriors forced 17 turnovers to go with six team steals. There wasn’t a player on the court who didn’t provide tough on-ball pressure. Defense is a team effort, that starts with their leader CJ Anthony.
3. EJ Farmer has what it takes to be an elite player – With 10 points in the first half, Farmer displayed scoring from multiple levels. The lefty can rise up from deep and bury it over the would be defender. With length, Farmer can maneuver in the transition to finish. Can’t forget about his pull-up game, an offensively minded player who can really score it.
4. Little Anderson is a quality unsigned player – Little Anderson had a solid showing on both sides of the court. On offense, he gets into the lane with ease after a good first step. Able to finish it in multiple ways with finesse, the senior can pull up as well. With a few steals on the defensive side as well, Anderson is a scrappy player that competes hard. The unsigned senior should be on D2’s with a need for a guard with size still, that competes on both ends.
5. Lutheran East and Harvest Prep set up to be a good one – Harvest Prep is a guard dominant team, that is big this time of year. But, Lutheran East has the amount of size that the Warriors do not. Harvest Prep’s CJ Anthony should be able to do some work against the Falcons. The matchup to watch will be the big’s, Elijah Glenn and Nehemiah Benson.
