SG Zion Morgan (Wabash Valley – Sophomore)
Morgan is a former Kenwood standout. The shooting guard didn’t have his best game for the majority of their quarterfinal game, but when the chips were down and his team was in trouble Zion delivered! Morgan put on a flat out show in the second half with his ability to score it at will. He shot it about as well as we have seen him from three drilling five pull ups triples in the second half alone. Sliced and diced his way through the paint. Early on he was having trouble finishing, but then he got a few to fall as the contest went on. He had 28 points including the game winner. Low-major plus prospect.
SG Josh Thomas (Wabash Valley – Sophomore)
Thomas is a former Simeon standout that still has the old school game we remembered. Physical guard that isn’t overly explosive athletically, but he knows how to get stuff done. Got to the rim with strength on crafty drives finishing well through contact. He had 14 points. Low-major/D2+ prospect.
SG Jalen Newsom (Wabash Valley – Sophomore)
Newsom has some intriguing tools. The 6’5” small forward is a thicker bodied wing, but still has some projectability. Knock down perimeter shooter as he drained three from deep. Moves well without the ball and has a quick release. He had 11 points. D2 prospect.
PF Cam Gross (Wabash Valley – Sophomore)
Gross is a former OPRF product that plays a small ball four at 6’5”. Makes up for his lack of ideal height with his strength and shooting. Stretched the floor hitting multiple threes. Tough inside when given post touches and screens well. He had 13 points. D2 prospect.
SG Dante Combs (Lincoln Trail – Freshman)
Combs is a long and lanky 6’4” wing with some projectability. Floor stretcher that caught fire in the second half both shooting it and scoring off the bounce. Knocked down some mid-range jumpers and got to the rim for a couple acrobatic finishers. He had 19 points. Combs is a projectable D2+ player at this stage.
PG Justin Williams (Lincoln Trail – Sophomore)
This 5’10” sophomore point guard is a lefty with a quality jumper. Knocked down threes and pull up jumpers throughout their game against Wabash Valley. Couple tough finishes through contact at the rim. Not the most explosive athlete or projectable. He had 19 points. D2 prospect.
SG Casius Bell (Lincoln Trail – Sophomore)
Bell flashed early with his rangy frame and feathery shooting touch from deep. Smooth looking shot was shown off from three. He had 8 points. D2 player.
PG Alex Health (Lincoln Trail – Freshman)
Heath is a small point guard that has toughness. Not the biggest or best athlete, but he knows how to play the game. Has some range on his shot and tight handles. D3 player.
C Daniel Hurst (Lincoln Trail – Sophomore)
Hurst is a big bodied five man at 6’9”. Had a big left handed dunk. Decent area rebounder that plays hard. The D3 prospect had 8 points.
F Vonnie Patterson (John A Logan – Sophomore)
Without question the best I have ever seen Vonnie Patterson play. He was outstanding against SWIC. The 6’4” forward is a positionless guy who defends the 2-4 spots and can almost play them on the offensive end too. He has a relentless motor that never stops. Big time defender on the perimeter and in the post. Excellent rebounder with his quickness and second jump. Snatches them aggressively out of the air. Offensively he uses that quickness in the paint to score on put backs and touches inside. Also put it on the deck a little more than we had seen in the past. Went for 13 points and 14 rebounds. Patterson is a high end low-major kid that could find a home at a mid-major in the right system.
SF Jayden Scrubb (John A Logan – Freshman)
Scrubb was the best prospect in the gym. The 6’6” freshman is a no doubt high-major player. He got in some foul trouble which limited his production a bit, but he leaves you saying wow every time we evaluate him. Plays above the rim catching multiple alley-oops and throwing down several other spectacular dunks. Slippery through the lane getting to the rack. He is a capable three point shooter with a sound lefty shot. Just so explosive both with and without the ball. Elite passing feel was shown in spurts. He had 18 points. High-major all the way!
PG David Sloan (John A Logan – Sophomore)
Sloan would tell you this wasn’t his best game. He missed some free throws late and wasn’t quite as dominant as he usually is, but dude still managed 15 points and 12 dimes. He is a kid that can manipulate ball screens so well. Always has his head up looking to find teammates and make plays. Sound pull up jump shooter that can also hit runners in the lane. High-major prospect.
SG Jonah Jackson (John A Logan – Sophomore)
Jackson came up big late for Logan. The Merrillville, Indiana product is a plus three point shooter that knocks down shots at a high rate. Drained two big ones in the second half and sealed the deal at the foul line in his 15 point effort. Low-major plus prospect.
SG Chris Harris (John A Logan – Sophomore)
Harris is a strong and physical wing that has strength and plus athleticism. Sound perimeter defender. The jump shot has greatly improved from his high school days. He hit a couple mid-range jumpers including a sweet one dribble pull up. Also connected on a three. Scored 7 points. Low-major prospect.
PF Quamain Nelson (John A Logan – Sophomore)
Nelson had an outstanding game. At 6’7” 220 pounds he has quality strength and finished well on dump offs and tip ins. Tough area rebounder. Played with a high activity level. Low-major/D2 prospect finished with 10 points.
SF Javonte Perkins (SWIC – Sophomore)
Perkins is a St. Louis University commit who has a very bright future with the Billikens. Physical small forward that likes to operate out of the mid-post area. He knocked down several jumpers from that spot with great elevation off the floor. A couple times he used crisp handles to the get to the rim. His size, strength, and athleticism combination make him intriguing at the next level. Went for 19 points.
PG Destan Williams (SWIC – Sophomore)
This former Pattonville standout in St. Louis might be small, but he has game! The floor general consistently made crisp passes to teammates for assists. Also knocked down shots from all over the floor with his jumper. Mixed in some tough takes to the hoop as he wasn’t afraid to take it in amongst the trees. He had 19 points. He is the type of competitor you want on your team! Despite his lack of ideal height he will be an excellent high end D2 point guard.
SF Oliver Stephen (SWIC – Sophomore)
Stephen shot it in high school, AAU, JUCO, and will do the same thing at the next level! The former Edwardsville standout is a 6’4” wing that can flat out shoot the basketball. Best moving without the ball and letting it fly off the catch. When he gets a clean look it almost always goes in. Most of his threes were off the catch. Also drained one on a dribble handoff. Scored 15 points on five triples. Low-major shooting specialist.
SG Dwayne Rose (SWIC – Sophomore)
We covered Rose in high school at Crete Monee. The sophomore guard is a 6’3” strong wing that got to the rim a couple times and scored on a post up. Power guard that is best scoring in the paint. He had 7 points.
