Six-foot-nine Dean Keener (Marina High in Huntington Beach) remains quite slender (200-poundish, perhaps) but his down-the-road potential exceeds that of a lot of like-sized and already-signed kids from the west.
Keener (pictured) is not an upper-tier shot blocker and – obviously – not a muscle-people-up rebounder.
But he’s got reliable hands and a oh-so-soft-and-accurate shooting touch from post the low post and in face-up situations.
And another player with every bit as much of a “long-term future” as Keener there was 6-6 (and a bit of change) Kameron Mayhan of Gardena.
Mayhan, who helped the Mohicans win the Pacific League and advance to the L.A. City Open Division playoffs and Southern Regional D-II pool, rebounded well-above the rim and also scored over the top of defenders inside the lane.
He also knocked in multiple deep jumpers.
Other standouts included 6-8 Quinn Collins (a 2018 Redondo High graduate who played this past season for Golden State Prep in Napa) and 6-5 Amir Adams of Santa Monica.
Collins is a superb “pick-and-pop” post while Adams is a well-above-average athlete who scores in a lot of ways.
