This will allow plenty of discussion over the next 2-3 years over which player will compete for future POY honors. As for this season, below is our picks for All League team in 2018-19.
1st Team
Kendall Moore- Belmont (2019)
Our City League Player of the Year, Moore stepped up as the senior guy for a Belmont team that lost multiple players from their remarkable 2017-18 season. A floor general with some serious bounce, Moore picked up collegiate interest during the season with his scoring capabilities and defensive effort.
Anthony McComb- Thurgood Marshall (2021)
Arguably the Cougars top overall player, McComb saw improvement from his freshman campaign and repeats his spot in the All League team. Possessing great size and tremendous overall offensive skill, Anthony is a mismatch against whoever he faces and should compete for POY over the next two seasons.
Mekhi Elmore- Thurgood Marshall (2022)
If a Newcomer of the Year award was to be given out, it would belong to Elmore without a doubt. The lefty guard has a knack for putting the ball in the basket. Possessing a very nice jump shot and great first dribble, Elmore will form a strong 1-2 punch with McComb with the Cougars.
Trevon Ellis- Stivers (2020)
The Tigers floor general, Ellis is a great distributor of the basketball. At 6’3, he has the size and the talent to be a collegiate basketball player in two years. Not the top scorer, but still an elite player.
Will Hill- Meadowdale (2020)
The leading scorer for a struggling Lions team this season. Will has good size for a guard and will be one of the top names to watch next season for Meadowdale.
2nd Team
Shawn Phillips- Belmont (2022)
A 6’6 raw forward with plenty of potential. Phillips has athleticism that is rare for a freshman post player. Although he struggles on the offensive end when it comes to finishing around the rim, Shawn demonstrated his shot blocking abilities which is where he excels.
Martel Smith- Dunbar (2019)
A tough guard, Martel has great offensive skill, especially off the dribble drive. Able to finish with several bodies around him, Smith was a key component for a Dunbar team that really struggled this season.
Damonte Bailey- Ponitz (2019)
Ponitz’s top post player, Bailey was one of the top big men in the City League the last two seasons. A physical, well built Center, Bailey used his size to overwhelm opposing defenders on the glass. Still a viable option for any JUCOs looking for a 4 or 5.
Malik Pooler Ponitz (2019)
Pooler was by far one of the best defenders in the City League. Quick with his feet and possessing great lateral speed, Malik was able to contain most players he was tasked with guarding. A talented offensive guard with a nice midrange shot.
Allen Latimore Stivers (2021)
One of the youngest players on an already young Tigers team, Latimore gives Stivers a consistent weapon behind the arc. Showing he can score in catch-and-shoot and off the dribble, Allen is bound to have a big summer and should continue to see his stock rise.
