In the opener, Columbus South took down Norwalk 61-54, with stellar guard play.
The night cap we seen Lima Shawnee defeat Cleveland Central Catholic 50-48, in a tight one.
Notable Performers:
• Brandon Haraway (6’2” / WG 2019 / Norwalk): Definitely not one of Haraway’s best games, but he flashed at times. The Ashland signee was able to score in the lane affectively, finishing through traffic. A virtue of acrobatic finishes, the senior is able to hang in the air and get his shot up. With 10 rebounds in the game, the wing-guard was able to jump and out battle the bigs most of the time. Good physicality and north-south speed, Haraway is going to be a solid D2 player. (14 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals)
• Trevell Adams (5’9” / G 2020 / Columbus South): What a boost off the bench that Trevell Adams was. One of a few nice guards that the Bulldogs have, Adams played at an elite level. A quick first step, Adams is able to get in the lane with ease. Also able to score with either hand, the junior had no problem finishing it off the backboard. Down the stretch the 5’9” guard was clutch at the free throw line, going six for seven. Standing under 6-foot meant nothing, as the Bulldog was able to grab eight rebounds, showing some scrappiness. (22 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals)
• Taquan Simington (6’2 / G 2020 / Columbus South): Taquan Simington had one of the best performances of the day, stuffing the stat sheet. Scoring wise the junior possesses a solid pull-up, that he can rise above with. Quick instincts had Simington out in transition often, resulting in a slam once. An unselfish player, the stud Bulldog had three assists, finding open teammates. A player that will get up in your face and lock you up, all game long. (15 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, 1 block)
• Taryl Davis (6’6” / F 2019 / Cleveland Central Catholic): Davis is a big bodied forward that can be tough in the paint. Grabbing 12 rebounds, nine on the offensive glass, Davis got his team many extra possessions. A player that naturally gets a lot of put back attempts off misses. A solid double-double in the tough loss for Central Catholic. (11 points, 12 rebounds, 1 block, 1 steal)
• Deshaun Nettles (6’8” / F 2020 / Cleveland Central Catholic): Not the best of games for Nettles, but the traits are definitely there. The potential to be a three level scorer, the junior shot it from all over in his 3-11 shooting night. Despite going 0-4 from deep, Nettles has confidence in a decent release to fall. At 6-foot-8, the lengthy Nettles has ability to play above the rim and score in transition. Runs the floor solid for his size, and moves decent laterally. A player to keep an eye on over the summer and next HS season. (7 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals)
