• #1 Columbus South 50, #7 Bishop Watterson 44: Coming in as the heavy favorite, the Bulldogs got things done. Advancing to regionals to play a tough Norwalk team next. However, Watterson battled South all game. Leading late in the game, things got away from Watterson a bit and South was able to end the game on a big run. For the Bulldogs, Treohn Watkins led the way with 17 points. The tough guard can battle with anyone and has done it consistently all season. Also, that same production will be key for Columbus South down the stretch.
For Watterson, Zach Sawyer gave his everything. An underrated guard in the area, is still available and should be on many D2 or premier D3 programs radar. Putting in 17 points, Sawyer was a big reason his team was close to the upset. A solid two-way player still trying to find his best fit.
Bishop Hartley lost double-digit games during the season, but turned things on as of late. Other players stepping up to help Morgan Safford has been huge.
Bishop Hartley Advances
• #4 Bishop Hartley 50, #3 DeSales 48: As of late, when these two teams play, it’s been a good one. Once again that was the case, on Saturday. A double-digit lead in the fourth shrunk for Hartley, late in the game. A three-pointer by Colby Rankin to win the game was the deciding factor in this one. A heartbreaking loss for the Stallions to say the least. But, a successful season on many levels for DeSales. The usual way of getting things done for Hartley, was 22 points by senior Morgan Safford. The senior has a great feel for the game, and one of the toughest competitors around. Low-major D1 programs should be in on Safford as the process closes up.
For DeSales, Sophomore Desmond Watson put in a team high 16 points. A tough loss for the Stallions to end this campaign.
