Micah Pollard saw a lot of change as a varsity player at Foss High School. But through it all, the 6-foot, 180-pound persevered – and excelled – during the past four years and put together a fantastic senior season. Last month, Pollard decided to go ahead and pull the trigger on his college commitment as he went ahead and signed to play in-state at the next level at Central Washington.
“I just felt that it was the best fit for me,” Pollard said. “They really wanted me and I really wanted to go there. I like their school and their system over there. They’re heavy on school and academics – their team has a cumulative 3.0 GPA all together – and they’re good at business which is what I want to go into. So I felt it was a win-win.”
The academic fit was the first thing Pollard mentioned when it came to his college choice but the opportunities on the basketball floor were key as well. “They’re going to be a good team, they just need more pieces and they felt that I was one of the pieces that they needed,” Pollard said. “I just really enjoyed the guys when I was up there when I got to visit and I loved the coaching staff – they’re just good people. And I like the college town’s vibes too – I really liked that.”
There’s no question that Pollard can score. The 2A SPSL West MVP scored 31.2 points per game but also contributed all over the court with 10.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 2.5 steals. It’s his overall game that he hopes to bring to the table next year at Central Washington while still working on improvement over the summer. “I’ll bring what they need me to bring,” Pollard said. “My point guard skills just need to get better.”
Pollard helped lead Foss to a 2A sPSL title which stopped just short of the state tournament. “It was kind of a bummer that we lost right before going to state but I felt like we accomplished more than what anybody thought we could accomplish,” Pollard said. “I was proud of our guys and how hard they worked to get to where they were at. We took a lot of people who hadn’t played in a varsity game before and I was the only person who had played before in a varsity game and we got that far.
Pollard ranks as the #21 player in the PrepHoops Washington Class of 2019 rankings.
