Class of 2020: The Class of Wings
The class of 2020 rankings update has been released here. One thing that automatically stands out in the top 30 is the amount of guys in the 6’5-6’7 range with true perimeter skills. These are not undersized posts we are talking about. Long and rangy guard/wings that can beat you off the bounce, slash in the paint and stretch the defense with three point range. Let’s take a look at some of the best wings in Washington’s class of 2020.
2020 Guards/Wings:
2020 6’6 SG Marjon Beauchamp, ML20/Hoop Salem (Rainier Beach HS) – The state’s most sought after recruit has countless high major schools from all over the country after him. Georgetown is the most recent school to offer the Metro League’s MVP. His ability to create his own shot and use his length around the basket is a big reason why top schools from all over the country are hoping to gain his talents.
2020 6’7 SG Tyler Patterson, Team LaVine (Mt. Si HS) – One of the best shooters and on-ball defenders in the state has slowly but surely added new elements to his game every year. Tyler’s best friend this club season will be the weight room and he has dedicated himself to continuing to get stronger. Countless schools from high major to mid majors are after him and he will ultimately go where he fits best.
2020 6’6 CG Jabe Mullins, Team LaVine (Mt. Si HS) – The 4A KingCo MVP is Mr. do it all on the court. He is capable of running the point, coming off of screens for catch and shoot opportunities and he can defend multiple positions on the floor as well. His versatility also makes him a highly recruited player in the 2020 class. He should have a big spring and summer on the adidas circuit.
2020 6’6 SG Peter Erickson, WA Supreme (Enumclaw HS) – A super shooter that can do more than just catch and shoot. Peter has the physicality and jumping ability to make plays near the rim. A handful of Division 1 schools are actively recruiting Peter and how he performs this club season could ultimately determine what level of school he plays at. Washington Supreme plays on the UA Circuit, so he will have plenty of visibility.
2020 6’5 SG Liam Lloyd, WA Supreme (Gonzaga Prep HS) – The 2-time state champion has played up with the Griffins in previous years, but he will make the move to WA Supreme for his final spring and summer as the Griffins kids will be graduating this spring. He is a rangy slasher that can also get hot from the outside. He is capable of defending the 1-3. Air Force, Northern Colorado, Idaho State, Grand Canyon and UC Santa Barbara have all expressed interest. EWU has offered the junior.
2020 6’6 PG/SF Cooper DeWitt, Hoop Salem 17u (Chiawana HS) – A real sleeper from the Tri-Cities area! He runs the point guard position for his high school team at 6’6, but he could be recruited at the 2 or 3 positions as well. His assist to turnover ratio from the point is extremely impressive and he is a real team player capable of scoring from all three levels when he is looking for his own shot. Cooper is under the radar right now, but he could make a name for himself this spring and summer with consistent strong performances.
2020 6’6 SF Tristian Smith, Hoop Salem 17u (Southridge HS) – Trisitan is another sleeper that is completely under the radar right now. His footwork and ability to get his own shot off is really impressive. He has all of the tricks in his bags when you talk about step backs, learners and turnarounds. He is a late bloomer, but he should receive some college attention if all goes as planned for him.
