Ron Davis III, G (Fulton) — 2019
For Fulton the points were difficult to manufacture all afternoon. Mitchell possessed quick guards and tall trees, but Davis III persisted. He crafted points out of many shots, most of which were fruitless. Davis, knowing he is playing his final week of high school basketball, attacked with urgency. Though Davis III missed 12 of his first 16 shots he kept plugging away and attacked well in the decisive overtime.
Cameron Powers, F (Mitchell) — 2019
A rebounding powerhouse, Powers collected double-figure bounds for the Mitchell Tigers. In a game of many, MANY missed shots rebound warriors added needed contributions. Neither team shot over 40%.
Mikell Rice, PG (Mitchell) — 2019
Both Rice brothers battled foul trouble throughout. In fact, Michael Rice barely played in the second half after attracting his third foul almost instantly out of the halftime locker room. MIkell provided the best perimeter defense of the game. Rice kept both Davis III and Dudda Lacy in check for the most part.
Taras Carter, PG (East Nashville) — 2019
Be great Taras! The explosive, excitable Taras Carter mustered 20 points, nine assists in a narrow victory over Howard. Taras is so strong and fast with the basketball. Carter’s continues trips to the free throw line really helped supplement a strong scoring attack from East Nashville.
Caleb Grimes, PG (East Nashville) — 2019
Caleb and Taras did enough to win and guards should be measured by wins secured. Grimes scored 12 points on five made field goals. In the semifinal against Fulton he needs to dive into the lane more often. Grimes is a wonderful outside shooter and will generally lift his team with poise and shooting.
Isaiah Jones, WG (East Nashville) — 2021
The entire season proved Isaiah is a future Metro star, and yet Wednesday morning showed Isaiah to be a current TSSAA star. The sophomore scored 19 points on just 15 shots. He even lead his team from deep, which is an area of growth. Jones recently signed up to run with Team Thad 16u, so this is the beginning of a wonderful 2019.
Ronney Pierson, G (Austin-East) — 2019
Austin-East only competed for one half and then Wooddale ran away from the Roadrunners, 79-61. Pierson scored 12 points in the opening half on 4-9 from the three-point line.
Kajuan Bullard, F (Austin-East) — 2019
Bullard played wonderful in the second half. He was tough and invested.
Trey Owten, WG (Brainerd) — 2019
Trey Owten expanded the late lead to three points and then stole a critical inbounds pass with six seconds left.
