Continue ReadingThe Class 6A Oklahoma State Tournament was a wacky bracket of fun. Booker T. Washington fended off Putnam City North to take home the crown. Out of all the classes in Oklahoma, Class 6A brings some impressive shooters to the table. In this feature I breakdown the top shooters from the weekend.
Micah Thomas Putnam City North 2019 Point Guard
The state tournament gave Micah Thomas the platform to shine on the big stage and he took full advantage. Thomas dominated defenders off the dribble using his hesitation moves to give him separation for his killer mid-range pull-up. Thomas also shot it well from the outside. The most impressive thing about Thomas this weekend was the efficiency he played with each night on the floor. Over the weekend Thomas shot over 50% from the floor. Thomas is planning on getting his release from SIUE and will be open to signing with the NCAA Division I school he so chooses.
Trey Phipps Booker T. Washington 2020 Guard
Phipps went from the worst game of his high school career on Thursday afternoon to the best game of his life Saturday night in the Championship. After not hitting a field goal on Thursday, Phipps silenced doubters scoring over half of the Hornets points. The 42 point performance by Phipps in the finals was in large part due to his sniper skills from three-point range. Phipps is currently committed to Tulsa.
Bryce Thompson Booker T. Washington 2020 Guard
Thompson was Mr. Steady this weekend for Booker T. Washington. He never went completely on fire crazy shooting the basketball but did give the Hornets a reliable shooting force from the outside. Thompson was all smiles capturing the Gold Ball that had been so close the previous two seasons. Thompson is a high major NCAA Division I recruit.
Michael McHenry Booker T. Washington 2019 Wing/Forward
Booker T. Washington featured three of the best shooters in the entire tournament. McHenry is easily the most under the radar guy on this list. As a stretch four man, McHenry provided consistent high percentage shooting from three-point land. He can help a small college at the next level.
Sean Pedulla Edmond Memorial 2021 Point Guard
It was not the typical Pedulla performances we saw in the regular season. However, even Pedulla at a little below his typical average is most players really good shooting performances. The Bulldogs are happy to have Pedulla coming back next year. He will be one of the best returning shooters in Class 6A next year.
Christian Cook Midwest City 2020 Wing
The Bombers existed earlier than expected, but Cook made sure to let his shooting presence be known. Cook has become one of the deadliest shooters from three-point range in Oklahoma. If he has the summer he is capable of Cook will have a wide range of college offers.
KD Jolly Putnam City 2020 Point Guard
Throughout the entire state of Oklahoma, no other athlete plays with a bigger chip on their shoulders than Jolly. Every single night this young man brings his hardhat and goes to work. Jolly and Putnam City proved a lot of people wrong this year. Jolly is a skilled Guard with a good jumper off the bounce. With a good summer, Jolly should have interest from several small colleges throughout the region.
Trentez Scales Putnam City West 2020 Guard
Scales stepped up hitting several key shots from the outside for Putnam City West. Over his high school career Scales has moved three times in three years across different parts of the country. If he can stay at West for his final season it would do wonders for his development and team.
Julian Smith Sapulpa 2019 Point Guard
It was not the best shooting night for Sapulpa. But Smith was good from distance showing off his will to do everything in his power to win. The doubters surrounding Smith cannot deny he was one of the best shooters this season across the state from three-point range.
Jordan Thompson Southmoore 2020 Point Guard
Southmoore made it to the big stage giving Thompson the platform to show off to the world what we noticed at Prep Hoops this past summer. The young man can flat out play. The best way to describe him is as a gamer at all times. When Southmoore needed big baskets in the playoffs Thompson was there with his killer jumper.
Darrin Ryan Southmoore 2020 Wing
Ryan is a catch and shoot prospect from the outside. At state, Ryan elevated his game under the bright lights making defenders pay for any room they allowed him to have from distance. He will be a possible small college player at the next level.
