Class 2A State Tournament Central
Below is a roundup from the 2019 OSSAA 2A State Tournaments played at various locations in Oklahoma City on March 7-9, 2019. This article will be updated at the conclusion of each game.
Quarterfinals:
Rejoice Christian 50, Dale 44
Rejoice Christian’s Reece Hamar, Jaden Lietzke and Justin Seay combined for 48 of Rejoice Christian’s 50 points as the Eagles overpowered Dale in the first round of play. Rejoice Christian will play against Minco at 9 a.m. tomorrow at the Jim Norick Arena.
Minco 53, Okemah 42
Minco overcame an 11-point deficit in the second half to advance to the quarterfinal round. Dayken Rackley led all scorers with 17 points and was trailed by teammate Cooper Shirley with 16. Minco is set to play Rejoice Christian tomorrow at 9 a.m. at the Jim Norick Arena.
Hennessey 69, Vanoss 60
Vanoss’s comeback bid fell just short as the Hennessey Eagles defeated the Wolves 69-60. After trailing by 14 points at the end of the first half, the Eagles brought it within 3 points with a minute and a half to go in the game. Hugo Rodriguez finished with 27 points in the Hennessey win. The Eagles are slated to play Rock Creek r tomorrow at 9 p.m. at the Jim Norick Arena.
Rock Creek 61, Hooker 48
Rock Creek earned a semifinal berth with a 13-point win over Hooker. Luke Jestis knocked down four 3-pointers en route to a 16-point performance in the win. The Mustangs hit twelve total 3-pointers on the night to clinch the victory. hooker was led in scoring by senior wing Tate Cathcart, who finished with 25 points in the loss, including 11 in the fourth quarter. Rock Creek will play Hennessey in the State Semifinal at Jim Norick Arena at 9 p.m. tomorrow.
Semifinals:
Rejoice Christian 55, Minco 44
Rejoice Christian defeated Minco on Friday behind a 17-point performance from junior Jaden Lietzke, who shot 73 percent from the field in the win and grabbed 12 rebounds in the process. Justin Seay contributed 17 points for Rejoice as well. Nick Burchfield scored 14 points in the Minco loss in a comeback bid that had Minco within a few points of Rejoice in the final minutes of the game. Rejoice advances to the State Championship where it will play Hennessey.
Hennessey 42, Rock Creek 38
Trailing by 7 points in the final minutes of regulation, Hennessey came back as Bryan Villalobos hit the equalizer as time expired to send the game into overtime. There, the Eagles outscored Rock Creek 5-1 to take the win and ensure its spot in the 2A State Championship game. The Eagles are slated to play Rejoice Christian for the Gold Ball.
