Oran (29-1) vs Van-Far (22-7)
Recap:
The Oran Eagles steamrolled into this semifinal matchup winners of 21 straight contests. Van-Far, winners of 14 of 16 themselves, proved to be up for the challenge early. The Indians got off to a hot start and led 13-12 after the 1st quarter. From there, Oran caught fire on the back of their standout 5’11 Sr Jacob Shoemaker. They led 29-22 at the half and after weathering a Van-Far run early in the 3rd quarter, they cruised to a 58-40 victory and a spot in tomorrow afternoon’s title game.
Who Stood Out?
5’11 Sr Jacob Shoemaker – Oran
With his team trailing after the opening quarter, the Eagles leader took charge. He buried four 3-pointers in the second quarter alone to give his team a comfortable lead. He had a pair of crowd-pleasing spin and score drives on his way to a game high 24 point performance. No stranger to performing on the biggest of stages, the Oran star came up big and will look for a similar effort in tomorrow’s title game.
6’3 Sr Caden Wilburn – Van-Far
With his team down and a magical run on the line, Caden gave relentless effort and came up with several big buckets for the Indians. He buried a huge 3 to end a run and cut their deficit to 4 close to the half and had back to back buckets at the rim in the 4th quarter to keep Van-Far within striking distance. He finished with a team high 13 points.
Who Stepped Up?
5’9 So Langdon Scheeter – Oran
Langdon had an inspired effort in the Eagles win. He buried a huge three, drove coast to coast for a transition bucket, and finished a tough baseline drive in the fourth quarter that sent the crowd into a frenzy. He is a big part of an excellent Oran supporting cast that will look to win their second state title in three years tomorrow afternoon.
6’0 Jr Tyson Goodale – Oran
Tyson came up with a big 10 point performance for Oran and also proved he could get it done on both ends of the floor. He was scrappy defensively throughout and took a momentum shifting charge. He was sneakily effective on the offensive end getting a pair of backdoor lay-ups and maneuvering through the defense for scores in the paint.
6’2 Sr Trey Miller – Van-Far
Although held below his season average, Trey stepped up for the Indians and showed great leadership. He posted and sealed hard on the block and was tough on the glass and defensive end. He will finish up an excellent senior season in tomorrow’s 3rd Place Game.
6’5 Sr Verlyn Johnson – Van-Far
Verlyn is an old school, physical, garbage man. It was refreshing to see his effort on both ends of the floor, particularly on the glass. He was key offensively in Van-Far’s hot start. He was near his season averages of 9 points and 7 rebounds per contest.
