Five Biggest Matchups
McCluer North (24-3) vs. Webster Groves (22-3), Class 5, District 5 at Webster Groves, 7:45 p.m.
No. 1 seed McCluer North has enjoyed a tremendous turnaround season after winning only 11 games last season. The Stars are a senior laden group that has been together for three to four seasons. They are taking on a Webster Groves team with a lot of motivation. The Statesmen are looking for a third consecutive trip to the Final Four and they are on their home court and playing for head coach Jay Blossom, who is retiring at the end of the seasons.
Rockhurst (21-3) vs. Lee’s Summit North (22-3), Class 5, District 13 at Lee’s Summit North, 5;30 p.m.
No. 1 seed Rockhurst has spent some time as the No. 1 team in the state rankings. They have a well-balanced lineup with strength at all five positions on the court. Lee’s Summit North has one of the state’s top backcourts in seniors Javaunte Hawkins and Mikel Henderson. Hawkins is one of the state’s premier bucket-getters and the Broncos are playing on their home court tonight.
CBC (20-7) vs. DeSmet (23-5), Class 5, District 4 at Parkway Central, 8 p.m.
This is the third meeting between these two Metro Catholic Conference rivals. CBC has won both regular season meetings by double digits with its stifling defensive pressure. DeSmet will get one final opportunity to get at the Cadets to try to add to its impressive turnaround season.
Francis Howell (25-2) vs. Fort Zumwalt South (24-2), Class 5, District 7 at Fort Zumwalt South, 7:30 p.m.
A tremendous matchup between the top two programs in St. Charles County. From a large school perspective, this is one of the biggest games in the St. Charles area in many years as both teams are capable of making a run to the Final Four of the state tournament. It’s so big, that Prep Hoops Missouri will be in the house for this one.
Republic (21-6) vs. Willard (17-9), Class 5, District 12 at Republic, 7 p.m.
The top matchup in Southwest Missouri tonight will also feature two of the top players in the region in 6’4″ 2019 guard Broc Smith of Republic and 6’5″ 2020 forward Daniel Abreu of Willard. Both of these versatile wings can get in done in a variety of ways that make their respective teams successful.
