Below I give a breakdown of the scores from today’s quarter final matchups and then standouts from the losing teams.
St. Johns 70 St. Maria Goretti 58
DeMatha 79 St. Francis 74 Double Overtime
Gonzaga 69 Bishop Walsh 59
Paul VI 68 Mt. St. Joseph’s 65
2019 RJ Blakney | St. Maria Goretti
The 2019 unsigned senior continued to show his high major talent on Thursday evening finishing with 18 points and shooting 50% from the field. Blakney was hitting jumpers from different spots on the court, finished at the rim and impressed running out in transition. We have said all year long that he has high major talent and once again it showed on Thursday.
2019 Rajeir Jones | St. Frances
What a performance for the Chicago State commit finishing with 28 points which included four triples. He got off to a fast start for St. Frances and was the one carrying them early on which ultimately led to them having a near chance of upsetting DeMatha. It did not matter what the defense was throwing at Jones, he was pulling up from anywhere and on anyone making shot after shot.
2020 Jordan Toles | St. Frances
Toles played the ultimate role in bully ball against DeMatha on Thursday. Finishing with 20 points, there was no stopping him when he was driving downhill attacking the rim. He stepped up huge by being the primary ball handler due to the fact that St. France’s did not have their starting point guard in Ace Baldwin due to injury.
2020 Jamal West | St. Frances
Jamal gave Hunter Dickinson all he could down low and around the rim finishing with 15 points and 10 rebounds. He was efficient around the rim where he shot 50% from the field and played a pivotal role in the post for St. Frances. There were numerous times when St. Frances would give West the ball early in the shot clock and he would get to work and produce for them.
2019 Olivier Robinson-Nkamhoua | Bishop Walsh
Here is another one of the best unsigned seniors in the area. Olivier has high major talent written all over him and colleges are starting to take notice as they should. Last night he tallied 14 points and 10 rebounds. He has great length with long arms and an underrated motor. Some program is going to be a huge winner come this spring in getting the athletic 6’9 man from Finland.
2019 James Bishop | Mount St. Joseph’s
By far the best performance of the day and arguably the best single game performance that I have seen all year, the LSU commit was scoring the ball whenever he wanted to and I mean that word for word. Finishing with 39 points in the game while shooting 14 for 24 from the field, he is in the debate for the best high school scorer in the country. Paul VI tried everything to try and stop him and literally the only time they stopped him is when they had four guys on him as he was about to attempt the game tying shot as time expired.
