Spring Combine Recaptures: Kaine Severance
MURFREESBORO-
Blackman Middle School was the site of the first annual PrepHoopsTN / AboveTheRimGym Spring Combine. Guards again filled the gymnasium.
Combo high school underclassmen combo guard Kaine Severance (Stewarts Creek) appeared to be versatile.
Kaine Severance, 5’9″ PG (Stewarts Creek) — 2021
- Standing Reach — 7’4″ or 88″
- 5’9″ 137 pounds
- Wingspan — 5’10”
- Vertical — 25.5″
- Hand Length — 7″
- Lane Agility — 11.56, 11.56
Kaine Severance earned spot time with Stewarts Creek (11-18) as a sophomore guard. Kaine looks like a ruffian, ready to scrap for every loose ball. While Kaine Severance is a gritty player frequently clawing for the pill he is not purely a grinder. Severance is an eager passer with a nice sense of spacing and speeds.
In the open floor Kaine is a more dangerous player than in the halfcourt.
Severance is fast enough to be a concern with the ball and unselfish enough for his fastbreak running mates to be constant threats too.
Kaine Severance fits the Stewarts Creek profile of surging, hard-charging guards. It is a program stuffed with guards. To grow his role within the program Kaine merely needs to find reliable finishers with his deft passes.
Defensively, Kaine needs to inject his chest more as a physical deterrent to slashing guards. His lateral quickness is fine, but the more powerful lead guards will just bruise their way through Kaine until he develops his body to match his mental toughness.
